Wondering how often people scrape the wax off and put new wax on. Also I have always scraped the wax off if I was going from cold to warm water or warm to cold. Can you just put a different temp wax on top of each other?

warmer wax is harder so you can put colder on top of warmer but not warmer on top of cold. I usually just strip my wax off every month or so.

The real question is, what is the easiest way to remove wax?? I usually warm up the wax with a hair dryer then it comes right off (not sure if this is bad for the board or not)

any suggestions would be great, its a pain to find a hair dryer plug it in etc...

I usually put my board out in the sun for 5 or 10 minutes and then hit it with a wax comb and it comes right off. Then paper towels and a liquid wax remover to take the film off.

I only strip the wax off my board when it reaches it's temperature limit and starts to fall off during a session. Usually happens twice a year. I used to strip it religiously with changes in water temp or any time I got a new brand of wax. But it seems like every time I took the time to do all that I would get hit with a flat spell for at least a month. So now, I just layer it up until it falls off.

Every other month or so. I tend to change my wax every 3 weeks in the summer because i like a clean look, plus i've been trying to use less wax on my boards. I do cover up my board from my traction pad to about the logo of my board, i hate when people only wax one square of space on a board, its ridiculous and stupid. I have been putting less wax on my boards because lately i've figured out my foot is too glued to my board and you have ot keep your feet moving on the board to fit the wave... ect. But, in the winter i don't take my wax off, yet use a wax comb and put a quick coat of cold wax over my old dirty wax where i usually stand. Ain't nothin' better than re-doing your wax job on your board the day before a long awaited swell.

In the winter I dont strip and change it as much unless I fix a ding and cause the duse gets on the wax and you gotta . In the summer I change it like every 2-3 weeks depending on how much i surf or how hot it gets

x2 on the sun method. i only wax a small area where my front foot goes (traction pads on the rear) and I find it works for me.

I do the same guz but its sketchy with a firewire since they stress the warning to not expose it to extreme heat

Yeah I wouldnt expose and Epoxy to extreem heat even to remove wax. I use a Wax Buddy Wax Comb and it works great

Every spring, once the sun's hot enough to soften it up for easy scraping. I don't care about how it looks... black, dirty, sandy... who cares. Hard wax in the summer, soft wax in the winter, right over top. Gets a nice bead up quickly. When it all starts to flake off when the water warms up, strip it and start over.

I strip mine all the time. In winter i dont worry about it too once a month or so since im wearing rubber , but spring thru fall i strip and use new almost every swell. If we have waves for like 3 days i use the same wax just trhow some fresh on top but usually wont use the same wax for the next swell. I just love some fresh Mrs. Palmers on there, i dont rash as bad with clean wax and the grip is so much better. I use about a 16" x 16" square for my front foot. If its big and my back foot might need to get in front of the traction pad for some pig dog barrels i may throw a bit right above the pad but other than that just a smaller square up front. My boards are short enough that my chest for paddling grip is about the same area as my front foot so no need for tons of wax. Also lots of wax equals lots of wax in my board bag.
