Sunny Garcia is a CHUMP. I effing hate that dude. What goes around comes around......Watch your back chump.
I think burleigh is the same place the bra boys are from...crazy local gangs and stuff. Its the place that dingo and steph gilmore were attacked. I wouldn't be surprised if the local dropped in on little garcia...little garcia and the local got into a verbal fight..paddled in while chirping. Then the tough local starts a fight w a 16 year old. Then theres the video.. Without the footage this wouldn't be a big deal at all. But if youre a raging sunny garcia i guess you dont think about cameras...then you attack the camera guy once you realize your f*cked Bad move by sunny to attack the camera guy. Cheers to Flores for having the little kids back
I agree to defend your son. For anything. However, Sunny is now in the Boy Who Cried wolf scenario. He has been violent so many times, and fought so many times, creating such a high profile per sauna for being billy bad as$ kicker... So, when we all see him sprint out and pound a guy, I guess its just no surprise.... Its like, when there is smoke, there is fire. And there is Sunny Garcia again. Beating on someone.... I mean, this would have been news if it was Taj Burrow. Or anyone who DOESNT have a terrible reputation like that. When the shoe fits, wear it. Its like... wow, kelly slater won ANOTHER title... big surprise... Then... Wow, Sunny is beating a guy up... big surprise... Thats all. Its all too common. He always has an excuse. Ive had plenty of times I wanted to pound someone, but normal people like us end up in jail after beating someones head in, on a youtube video... We will see how they handle it.
Sick idea the local surfer who got punded should get a restraining order on sunny garcia and that local surfer should just chill at pipe so sunny would be beat.
I can't help but think that had Sonny been using baby wipes this whole thing could have been avoided.
not to be "that guy" but who really cares? not like any of us hang out with garcia or flores. not really a big deal to start getting all riled up about like some of the posts have on here.
the whole long interview shows him an immature,self-centered,angry,hateful,self-righteous person.even prison failed to humble him
Iv'e heard stories from a few of the local crew here has had some runs with him over the years in Fiji & Hawaii. The consensus is he is a bit of an a$$. That says a lot because they hold a fair amount of respect for their Hawaiian counterparts. Luckily they are not 16 year old kids but ju jitsu and stand up guys who can hold there own.
haha, nice man. let the racial slurs begin! how about the proper response to this??? STOP RETRIBUTIVE VIOLENCE!!! F@#$iING STOP IT!! You want to see what happens when we accept that crap? Go spend some time in North Ave in Baltimore. You think "it's all good" and "how it's always been", but how about treating another human with respect? I condemn all parties involved here. It's ridiculous. You think life is so hard because some guy dropped in and "disrespected you"? Trying going to some of the places I've been where people get raped, robbed, kidnapped all the the time. Stop crying people, seriously, you have NO IDEA how good you have it. If you did, you wouldn't get all pissed off about stuff that doesn't matter.
Maybe if people stood up for themselves more they wouldn't get robbed. You can roll over if you want but I will continue to train and arm myself to protect me and my family. Zach said it best. Sunny made a name for himself as a fighter so this bit him. If it had been some no-name guy standing up for his kid, then most people would have no problem with it.
Ok...there's a huge difference between protecting your kid and practically drowning someone. If he just needed to protect his kid, he should have just removed him from the situation and from getting into trouble. If his son wants to be a pro surfer, he definetly should not be getting into fights and getting bad publicity. Sunny just made it worse. After all is said and done, he then attacks the lonely by stander with the camera....what a douche. Sunny should be dreaming about surfing behind bars.
I agree with the Sunny thing but not about simply removing the kid from the issue. If somebody messes with my kid in the lineup they will get roughed up just to make sure that person thinks twice before trying that again. If you run away (what you are proposing) that person will never get that lesson.
whoa kanga firing with both barrels: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/new...-slow-to-respond/story-e6frg7mf-1226010236332 Surf administrators slow to respond February 22, 2011 5:15PM THE only thing less surprising than Sunny Garcia's Hawaiian style of conflict resolution at Burleigh Point on the weekend is the lacklustre response of the organisation empowered to discipline him. As the video of a fight involving Garcia and fellow pro surfer Jeremy Flores, of Reunion Island, which is attracting tens of thousands of views on Youtube, undermines the positive image the sport has managed to acquire, the Association of Surfing Professionals is taking its time to decide about whatever discipline it might impose. The ASP's rules and discipline committee met yesterday and deferred any judgment on Garcia and Flores until after the police had finished an investigation into the incident. The police investigation was solely on Garcia, who allegedly attacked a Brazilian who recorded the incident on video. The Brazilian reported the attack to the police, but yesterday afternoon dropped the complaint. With the police investigation terminated, the ASP is now able, according to its own rules, to discipline Garcia and Flores. But CEO Brodie Carr was not returning calls from The Australian today to explain what that discipline might be. Neither did former ASP president and current Surfing Australia board member Wayne "Rabbit" Bartholomew, the 1978 world champion and one of the sport's most respected figures, return calls from The Australian. Bartholomew himself has firsthand experience of the Hawaiian thuggery that has been an occasionally recurring feature of the sport. In 1976, he lost a few teeth when he was beaten up at Sunset Beach, having previously unwittingly offended the locals in a surf magazine. Death threats ensued, and he and fellow Australian Ian "Kanga" Cairns needed to go into hiding for a couple of weeks. Cairns today told The Australian that he believed the ASP "has its tail between its legs" regarding the North Shore. He claimed the ASP was delaying properly disciplining Garcia because it might have "repercussions" for the Hawaiian leg of the pro tour, which is traditional for being both the culmination of the tour and the site for most of the trouble the ASP must deal with. Over the years, visiting pro surfers have been heavied by locals who resent the annual incursion on their breaks. "We have spent 40 years trying to make the image of surfing as something positive and amazing, and the thorn in the side the whole time has been the group of people who rule the North Shore with an iron fist. It's completely unacceptable and the ASP needs to make a stand. "I've known Sunny for over 30 years. He's fundamentally a good guy. But he's got this crazy streak. He's let it get out of control. Without question, Sunny is regretting what he did." I agree with Cairns. Having once interviewed Garcia at length at his home in California, I can testify he's a charismatic, friendly guy. But his conflict resolution methods are not becoming of a sport star. This is not the first time Garcia has been linked to an incident of intimidation. In 2007 he was fined $US5000 for chasing Brazilian Neco Padaratz from the water after a confrontation over a wave during the Pipe Masters. Cairns said Garcia needed to be banned for life. "I really like Sunny, I think he's an incredible surfer," Cairns said. "But this kind of thuggery cannot be allowed to be associated with the sport of surfing. "This needs to be a catalyst for change on the North Shore. And if you asked 100 people in downtown Honolulu you'd get exactly the same response. Normal Hawaiians are good people. They are friendly and open. If everyone stood up with me and stood up for what was right and what was fair, the thuggery on the North Shore would be gone."
I have actually talked to Sunny before and he seemed pretty laid back and down to earth. But, this was when he was on house arrest, so he prob had no choice. You know, there are people out there like that.... When you are cool, you are cool, when you are pissed, you are PISSED! HA HA HA, he seems to get pissed pretty easy
Here's the way i think it probably went down: (censored version) Aussie: Yo, you just dropped in on me Kid: shut up or do something about it Aussie: Really, alright let's do it Kid: Yeah, uh, ok... then Sunny's kid starts to get manhandled and here comes Sunny to the rescue to attack the Aussie while he's not looking.
or just as likely the local dropped in on the kid and the kid complained about it too much and the local slapped him. either way if you're a 41 year old father you don't choke someone out and punch them repeatedly while they're unconscious at a public event. at some point we all figure out that blowing up over stupid stuff is counterproductive. sunny hasn't learned this lesson yet apparently..
