I was told by my mother today that Costco is selling these "gay soft foam surfboards" (her words exactly)... Made me pretty mad thinking of seeing fat little kids (and grown men/women) out on them this summer, clogging up the line up with there foam boards and Kirkland boardshorts:eek:

Anyone else have any thoughts on the subject? If you google it, you get a lot of hits!

Crank up the localism at your break and that will take care of it. My local spot ...over 2 ft... if you show up with a funboard or longboard you aren't even allowed in the water. PERIOD.(x2 if your white) Not me...I'm friendly and warn those who are about to violate the rules and take liberty with their safety...heck I'll even tell them a spot they can surf where a punch in the face isn't awaiting them for exceeding their skill set and causing those with time-in to miss waves. Alas those that didn't listen paid the price and now reputation and the occasional beatdown leave the best & most consistent wave on the island to the best & most consistent surfers. Problem solved.

Of course not, but I can't imagine this ever happening unless you have money to throw away, and probably a board to throw away too!

if you click the link and read some of the info on those pages you will see that it not just foam boards ending up at Costco.

Really what does it matter if someone who doesnt know if there are gonna like surfing buys a board at Costco or a Surfshop in there area. Yeah its nice to buy from a loca buisness and support a local surfshop but most ppl just starting out dont really know that yet.
I wonder if Spongers get pissed when the see a wall full of boogie boards at K-Mart or Walmart?

It really nobodys fault but our own Surfing is so Mainstream now how could you not expect it?

I just let my surfing do the talking for me it dont matter what I ride . Foam board or handmade custome its all about the rider

Worry less about what others are doing/riding and concentrate more on what you are doing/riding.

imagine if a ripper got on one of those and as you are paddling back out he schwacks the lip and throws a bucket on you. That would be funny.

A person that buys one of those is over-weight or ****sexual. They will come to the lineup with sandals and shirts on with gold chains and with there overweight ****sexual son on a smaller foamy..Usually trying to paddle out while eating a bag of ships or a hotdog.. maybe even a pizza! Ive seen it all. Ge will ride the white wash in on his chest and soon call it a day.. or make it to the line up (on a calm day of course) and just float like a bouy in everyones way.. IF I see a paddleboard for $99 there.. **** ill buy it!

As in there is really NO NEED in spending the exrta cash on "Designer Surfboard" prices as discussed in an earlier topic. ;)

The boards @ Costco were from a regular shaper & not China in one of the articles I read. A deal on 200 boards went bad & were already paid for by the distributor & Costco bought them for $180 from the distributor & were selling them for $199. Looks like someone could have scored a good deal on a board if they didn't mind knowing 200 other weekend beach goers were sporting the same board.

i ride one of these. in fact i can cut back do floaters and do off the lips. and then to make it more fun go switch stance and it will be fun and you wont be laughed at when you get good on them. so just cuz a person is on a foam board from costco dont immediatly judge them judge them after you see them surf on the boards.

It's not what you ride it's how well you do it and if you're having fun. If I see one of these I'm picking one up for wifey (and kids down the road). She almost learned the hard way what happens when a 9'6" beater goes over the falls and pops back up inches from your head.

Yeah for the better you are right but if you know what u like and works best for you then Custom or "designer" boards as you call it are really the best way to go.

If you are a noob to surfing it would be crazy to spend big money and high end board and you better off going to Costco for a 200 board.

But if you have been around awhile and like you boards shaped a cetain way or buy a certain shaper then that the route u gotta go .
