I know this is completely insensitive and I have already been praying for the affected but I saw a video of the first wave and it was peeling right.

Like the Indo tsunami, there was one video where it showed a huge barreling right before it smashed against a sea wall.

    Did anyone notice that?

Trying to ride it would mean certain death but it's just strange how these waves break with shape then just engulf everything.

I totally noticed how tempting the waves are but they're obviously not worth the consequences.

I remember watching a program on the discovery channel years ago about tsumai's where this surfer in the 70's claimed he was in the lineup after a quake and surfed one of the subsequent tidal waves. I always dismissed this scenario for obvious reasons, especially after watching the footage from the 04 Indo quake. But after watching NHK's live broadcast this morning from Sendai province, I can say it is entirely plausible. Crazy situation, I hope the nuclear reactors in Japan are alright.....

Well, so far so good in SD. I got woken up by family phone calls at 4am. It freaked me and the wife out, but we got online in the middle of the night and checked it out... This is the largest magnitude ive heard of in that area.

When this happened last year, the tide just swung 10 times in 1 hours. Boats in the bay etc bottom out because of extreme high to low tides. There really was no energy in the water.

We are all on standby. Apparently, the first wave hit about 30 minutes ago, but there was no noticable water anywhere. THere are thousands of people down on the cliffs and up in LJ on the bluffs just checking it out...

I may take the video camera down later just to film the crowds... No action in the water though....

Its definately freaky. I am watching the local fox broadcast live, and they just got a new video of that ENTIRE CITY, thousands of homes, entire farms all being swept away. It seriously looks like one of those bad epic movies. An entire GIANT city was just completely removed. Cars everywhere. Building on fire sweaping down in the water....

The footage of this is 10 times worse than anything I actually saw from the Menawais Incident. Or anything from the Chili Quake.... Even the Haiti footage has nothing on this.

I mean, this is an incredibly disaster. In a bad way. But the sheer force of mother nature is nothing to play with... Incredible to watch....

I am throwing up some prayers for everyone over there. I am just hoping that all those homes were empty....

My wife works 1 block from the beach, at sea level, and she just went in to work now. She said the owner said they are busy as sh** with disaster tourism.... My job is up on a bluff in La Jolla, right above the cove, so while its like 300 feet up above the water, its on the edge of a sheet cliff, and I am not to thrilled about having to go in there later... I am definately going to keep an eye on things....

But yeah, hopefully this wont pan out to be anything on the west coast...

Although, San Mateo and Humbolt Counties just evacuated all coastal residents. Sketchy... They havent said anything to us down here. I live on the second story, about 7 blocks from the beach. No one is doing anything out of the ordinary here.

These videos in Japan are heartbreaking though... absolutely nuts...

I dont know if you guys have ever felt a quake. Ive been in a handful in the past 10 years here. The worst one Ive ever felt was like a 5.8 or something, and it literally knocked me over, laster about 12 seconds, and shook the entire city. I almost sh** my pants when it happened. You just get tossed on the ground. Helpless. Anything over a 6.0 and you literally cant move. No walking. You are immediately thrown to the ground...

My dad works for Noaa and explained that once you get up in the 7.5+ - 9.0 it is like a million times stronger than what ive felt... I mean, that is some "i see god" kind of stuff. That is the most powerful force the earth can muster up. Insane...

I hope everyone is doing well and any family/military connections people have over there are all accounted for...

If anything interesting happens out here, I will post some video or info. Im just waiting and watching....

There is a sick photo of a GIANT mushroom cloud. I think it was some kind of non-power plant, but it seriously was a hiroshima cloud. UNREAL! It is like a mile high mushroom cloud that eclipsed the entire city below it... Im not sure if anyone has a link. I saw it on a TV broadcast.

I havent clicked on all of the links in the thread yet, but someone needs to post a link to the Farm Land footage. The one with like 1000 houses being swept away. The water just shredding the city, picking up everything on a farm. Sh** is on fire. The craziest sh** ive ever seen.

    WTF is that?

Skip to 1:14 in this video look at the bottum right of the screen, and where the wave is breaking you see this gigantic shadow of this whale shaped item swim through the wave and out of screen.

first thought it was a helicopter shadow bbut it def looks like its swimming.

    wtf?

look at the dividing line of white water and blue water to see it

reminds me of after the 2004 tsunami when they found all weirdo fish dried up on land

wow, good eye man. That does look crazy. Almost looks like it cuts through the tapering lip right on the wave face. Im assuming its a jet shadow based on how fast it is moving against the grain. If that wave was moving 400MPH, that means that the shadow was cruising... crazy

Crecent City in Nor Cal just reported damage. 4foot tsunami force waves hit the shore and damaged some pier etc.... The wave sizes are small, but as you can see from the other videos, its is just a rolling mass of destruction.

Update: The tide is swinging. It going high low every 10-15 minutes. Looks like up a foot, down a foot etc. But the tide is not following its predicted patern.... this is what happened after the chili quake last year... There are actually like 6 guys out surfing the pier right now...
