True that think I'll start going to Long branch I here it gets pretty good there... Has any one been to Long Branch to surf how is it there? What Street do I go to? Where do I park? What board do I ride? Do I need a wet suit? Are the people in the water friendly? Should I bring friends or surf there alone? Are there sharks? How are the resurants? What is the gps coordinance to the best place to surf right hand waves? Would any one like to go with me? haha JK but this is what this forum has turned into.. oh yea and I always surf for 4 hrs and the waves are always like chest high to head high + Can any one hang with me oh yea everyone can.. Guys seriously I am a tri athlete been surfing for 20+ yrs and I cant surf a 4 hours session wearing a 5/4 in chest to stomach waves(if I actually am catching waves) lets just get real
Yeah Saturday was super clean and glassy, and HOLLOW. PERFECT. The the onshores started RIPPING at around 3pm. I boogied on out and headed home. Today was another picture perfect day. Should have surf again tomorow!
more tomorrow perhaps and if bauer shows up here before 3:30 he'll be alone after 3:30 he'll have miles of beachbreak with just me instead of his spot it sounds like everybody's spot ortley through mantoloking has been good this weekend around high tide come on down i'll be in chadwick nobody out i love cams no one comes here
4 hours today in NJ. Fun with chest high sets. Not much crowd, unless you count the 3 seals that came into the lineup! First time I ever saw seals here in NJ.
Hahahah! Got a kick out of that one, brother... Nobody likes crowds, especially when it's a lot of non-locals. Not that I care about where people come from, but if you're not local, chances are you'll inadvertently find yourself in the way of those who have the place wired. But if you're complaining about it during the winter.... come on, man! What I'm trying to say is, we're all creatures of habit, and we like "our spots." But if you take some time to seek out and surf other places, you can be pleasantly surprised. My local parking lot was loaded with cars from NY and PA from Friday through the weekend, in addition to the normal weekend crowd. So I went somewhere else. Yesterday a friend and I had a prime spot to ourselves for nearly two hours just a couple miles down the road from the pack of kooks with their NSPs and GoPro cameras.
wow, i didn't see too much of that around this weekend. i did head a bit south, but it was thinned out and plenty of waves to go around. not quite summer yet... and for the new yorkers, they're generally pretty cool when we head up there so i try to treat them w/ the same hospitality.
and that is when i arrived. and all everyone was talkin about was how great it was earlier ........ faillll
Solid three days. Can't agree more with your last sentence. Waves, sun, and st. pattys day celebration. What a weekend!
VB Friday was great I surfed Friday in VB right in front of watermans at 5th street. Caught it really fun from 11a.m. til 2:30 pm, and it was really fun waves, chest to head high on sets. The wind changed a bit and the tide got on it right near 3pm. It was fun though. Saturday couldnt surf, but paddled out Sunday and it sucked but Friday was fun. Im hungry for more.
Surfed vb fri afternoon, solid chest+ pretty clean in south SB. Surfed the same spot on sunday morning, it was flat occasional 5ft haha. A straggler set would come through every 20 minutes or so. Well worth the wait. Beats the usual... Glad to see that guys not that far south are out of gloves already.... and I may have a new favorite sandbar. At least for E swells.
I agree with this one thats actually not quite true, here is why - the internet has created a whole generation of "surfers" who never have and likely never will develop a real intuition for wave/condition prediction. If you rely on internet sources to figure out when and where to surf, instead of learning how the real watermen do it,( and then using the internet as an afterthought) well I guess best of luck to you. you may be overtraining (or lying or just a *****) b/c I'm 39, surfing 23 years, 15 lbs overweight and I easily do 4 hrs esp. when I catch waves instead of sitting I actually last longer. Sunday was waist-stomach occ chest I drank close to a 5th of scotch Sat. night slept 4 hrs (Thanks DST!) and surfed from 7 am to 11 - no problemo.
SO true, the posts on here are nothing but inland kooks blowing up spots they don't live at. I check the "forecasts" on here daily, the titles of some the threads are hilarious!
Hey LB I agree with you 100% I just felt like venting I actually had a great weekend of surfing Sat. went to a very popular crowded spot that was working very well had the main peak for about an hour before the masses came out and they were mostly local rippers not kooks so I have no issue there waited my turn and got some good ones but once this crew grrew who all knew each other and started being greedy and droppingin on each other and me then I had to go.. went down the beach but it just wasnt doing it for me so then I went to search out another spot to catch some waves solo. Unfortunatley I didnt find another spot that looked appealing wind was messing with most of the other spots that check. Sunday was more fun for me after checking a few spots that I was hoping would be working at sunrise tide was still really low 2 spots weren't working at all but my goto spot was and no one was out but there was a gathering of minds coraling and the lot was full I met up with a bro and we had it to ourselves for 45 mins got some good ones then a few guys came out no issue then by 9 it was a zoo like summer time with 5/4's but I was stoked with some of my rides so instead a fighting with the crowd I bailed and went elsewhere my other spot was uncrowded and firing! So it was a god day I was stoked!! Its all good that its winter and we can surf where ever we want but some spots do break way better then others unfortunatley the better spots are the crowded ones...for good reason.
So this swell seemed to be a little more south in it than I was expecting.. Was really happy to see this especially on sunday morning. Did anyone note what the swell dir was?
"Hey LB I agree with you 100% I just felt like venting I actually had a great weekend of surfing Sat. went to a very popular crowded spot that was working very well had the main peak for about an hour before the masses came out..." Avoid those pesky crowds. Guided surf tours $1000. PM me.
I couldnt believe how many people were out on Saturday in northern NJ, Im glad I got on it early before it got too bad. Thats the first time Ive seen so many people out in 40 degree water. I saw a bunch of guys on pop outs and NSPs that were sitting there shivering so Im assuming they dont surf in the winter and just tried to go out without a thick enough suit or something. Now as for the talk about lots of out of town plates at "your spot", Ill admit it...I live in PA. Its not something Im proud of and Ive been trying to get my girlfriend to move out to NJ with me for a while, we just cant afford it currently. That has nothing to do with my surfing ability though. I know for a fact that I surf more than a lot of the "surfers" that live within 20 minutes of the beach. I make the 2 hour trip (one way) to the beach at least once a week, sometimes more, to get a session in. This past week I was out on Monday, Saturday and Sunday. I got up at 4:00 on Saturday and Sunday to be there by dawn. When you see us in the lineup theres no way of telling we arent from the area, only the plates on our cars give it away. So please dont give us dirty looks when you see us changing out of our suits at our cars or automatically assume we are kooks. Not everyone from out of state is a kook, some of us are just not fortunate enough to grow up near the beach.
