Are stupid. I keep seeing all these people on craigslist trying to get $350 or so for a BIC board. What a bunch of morons. Who would by a surfboard from a company that sells pens and lighters anyway?
bics are awesome. i'd want one if they didnt cover them with retarded designs. should just make em plain white
I would like a BIC for my out of town friends who visit me and want to learn to surf. Then I don't need to worry about them dinging it up....and if they do...who cares its a BIC.
i agree with you, but i had a short lived interest in windsurfing and was very surprised to find out that Bic's are very popular sailboards and have a good portion of that market.
If there were... ...$50 dollar boards that worked as well as any other shape, well...I would purchase them. I hate spending my money on a new board every time we get waves just to see it snap in the shore’y. I find zero soul in a board...sorry shapers! I think resin tints and great glass jobs are great to look at as art, but my "selfish desire to surf the actual wave" outweighs the significance of who made my board. Will someone make me an environmentally friendly board for under $100 that works? BIC, if you make me a board that works for $100, I will buy 10 of them. Sorry wanksters…
The east coast market for bics is New England with all the rock coast line, shallow stone reefs and tough cliff like access to the water. I went to URI. Everyone had bics up there it seemed.
And that's it, right there... Once you've reach a point where you can tell the difference, it's time to get off the BIC and onto a traditional surfboard. But the fact is, they just don't work as good. I must say, however, that I've rented BICs when I've found myself at a place with waves and no board. Let's face it.. if an alcoholic will drink mouthwash, I'll ride a BIC.
I love windsurfing, and bics are popular, but so are hand-shaped sailboards too. Some of the local obx surfboard shapers also make fantastic sailboards. I think the main difference is that bic actually tries hard to make a sailboard for advanced riders, with kevlar sandwich technology and whatever else they do. Whereas the bic surfboards are designed for beginners, and have never claimed to be anything else. Having a durable board is also way more important for windsurfers, when you wipeout its almost guaranteed that a heavy mast or boom is going to slam into your rail... out of curiosity.... why was your interest short lived?
bic is a crazy company... did anyone else know they make sailboats too? http://www.apsltd.com/c-5042-openbic.aspx
saw them at the VB location a few weeks ago. 129.99 if I recall correctly. They had pretty sweet floral prints on them. All i have to say about it is... bring one out to my spot, prepare to get vibed. Hard.
