yea theres a bunch of different things i was just seeing what you guys do and still get to have time in the water during the week just for future reference.
Move to Australia...min wage is 15 an hour. AND... the Aust. dollar is now stronger than the American dollar. Cost of living is decent and you can find "good" job anywhere. I'm just trying to save up the initial money for the visa and plane ticket, then, I'm there!!!
yeah, that guy who drives the bmw/porsche with the carbon fiber board who dropped in on you last summer pharmaceutical rep= drug dealer $60,000+ per year wherever there is doctors offices, pharm reps travel Buy a clam rake and go clammin= 50 cents per clam x 500 clams/day=$250/day if you know who to sell clams to= $1/clam speaking of clams....If you live in AC and are a nice shaved female= BareExposure strip club =$150-$300/night
im actually next year enrolling in the local community college and becoming a paramedic. even though the class is a brutal class and so forth when i graduate depending on if i pass the tests cuz you gotta get an 80 on every test im guaranteed a job right out of the box. and even though ill be 18 when i become certified i can work as a lifeguard and get paid more. and then when im 21 which is NC's law you gotta be 21 to be a paramedic cuz everyone has to be able to drive the truck i can start off making 40000 a year. plus ill work some days on some days off and so on.
Not too positive on cost of living but things over there are way more expensive to buy. What do you do in Public Education? Depending your hours, you most definitely could get in DPs and there are tons of breaks during the fall/winter/spring to surf or travel.
yes, min wage is high but so is cost of living. $50 au for a case of beer, u ready for that? everything there is approx 150% more expensive. good jobs? not really, more like entry level jobs only(i must say it was shocking to see hot young women working at mcdonalds). any visa ur gonna be able to get will only let u stay there for a max of 1 year. if u wanted to do it on a budget and by yourself, you could easily make it happen. however, i feel like if u were that kinda person you wouldnt be asking this kind of advice. do it!!
I live 15 minutes away from the beach... not extremely close or anything but it's close enough. But I'm lucky enough to have a part-time job at a surf shop that is on WB so in the summer (when I actually do make a decent buck) i'll just surf before work, work my shift (usually never longer than 5-6 hours) surf after work. During this time of the year during school I have adopted FLEX schedule, where I wake up extra early, and finish school an hour and a half earlier. I can't do dawn patrols but in the winter who does? I would have at least 2 hours after school to surf even during the shortest days of the year, now I can surf 4 plus hours since it's daylight savings.... But I always plan my trips with a surf in mind.... you have to organize your day in order to fit in as many surf sessions into the shortest amount of time... be on top of the weather and swell
in the winter im all over it. whether its 630 am and 25 degrees or 530pm and 40 degrees. cant be a picky surfer in jerz just gotta be on it. (in the response of who does dps in the winter)
Well, if the waves are good, I'm going no matter how cold it is, but like if I had to choose afternoon sessions over morning sessions in the winter for a semester at a time, I would have to choose afternoon sessions. I guess the reason I haven't done dp's last winter was because I wake up at 5:30 for school every morning, but boy having from 2:30-dark to surf when the waves are good is well worth it than only surfing 45 mins in the morning. EDIT: NC surfers can't be too picky either, haha
I'm beer delivery. It keeps you in shape, the faster you go the faster you get off (for the afternoon/evenings with swell).. Leave the warehouse at 6am in the winter get back at 2pm you have the rest of the day for surf. Summer time waves suck mostly anyway, but you could sneak in some late sessions if you move fast. If i was your age, trust me on this, i would work hard, and travel alot. Because when you get a mortgage and bills responsibility blah blah blah all that freedom will go away.
8-3...HA! i'll be walking out the door in about 15 min., arriving at my school by 7:20 or so to get everything i need set up for the day. then, when classes are done for the day, i'll be after school until 4 or 4:30, working w/ kids who need extra help &/or prepping for the next day. the only days i (& many others) leave "on time" is when there's something else i need to do...dr's appt, run some errands, or surf...& even then i'm usually leaving something unfinished. & then on sunday, after working all day at my 2nd job, i'll do an additional 2-3 hours of work for the classroom, writing lesson plans, emailing parents, updating the gradebook, etc... so on paper, yea, you can't beat those hours. too bad i don't work those hours. i doubt the other teachers on here do as well. of course, if you're passionate about it, then it's worth all that. but if you just want to teach b/c it seems like a cushy gig, then you've got another thing coming. like LBCrew said, it's afternoons, weekends, & the strategically placed sick day...& travel in the summer.
yup - I make over 100K and so does my wife but I live 2.5 hours from beach. we r now stuck in our location and will be until we retire in 15 years. but when we retire we can do anything and live anyhwere - if we still have our health. i make it to beach every time there is a decent swell - like maybe this Friday. money helps with everything, obviously, but you end getting stuff that u just have to take care of - the trick is to make good money and not keep on buying dumb sh!t that sucks up ur time. one of my good buddies is a pot dealer and he surfs more than i do.
