I would go for it. what a lot of people said about doing this stuff before you get tied down with responsibilities is dead on.

HOWEVER, I think you need to keep you eyes open. CA is not this nirvana people make it out to be. They have the highest unemployment rate in the US (http://www.bls.gov/lau/) and one of the largest budget deficits. At some point they are going to have to get their finances in order that will most likely mean much higher taxes and a dramatic scaling back of the government freebies like the tuition deals.

Agreed...There are a lot of people in California and a lot of traffic, but there are also a LOT more waves....

    Blacks Beach
    Windansea
    Swamis
    Cardiff
    Cottons
    Church
    Pleasure Point
    Steamer Lane

I've caught all of these spots more than once in really fun chest+ clean conditions. For those spots that would be in between "real" swells. While crowded and competitive, they were less crowded and less annoying than good spots in fun conditions in Cape May, Delaware (all the obvious spots) and Ocean City Maryland in all but deep winter.

And those (the California spots) are the easily accessible spots a clown from Delaware can just drive up and surf without too much thought...

Im not saying California isnt more crowded than the east coast, but you've got to factor in the consistency and huge number of options out there.

Pretty cool they forked it on the flat bed like that. I once put a guys ford escort on a storage loft with a fork lift like that.. The guy called the cops and reported his car stollen cause he couldnt find it. About a hour before the end of our shift we showed him gave him his car back and he drove home . On his way home the cops stopped him cause his car fit the discription of one stollen earlier in the day LOL

The lead attorney just walked in and congratulated me on making the move. Last guy expected to say that. Anyway, he looks at my boss and goes "why dont you just lay him off, May 6th so he can collect unemployment while he looks for work.":D:D

    Muahahahaha 26 weeks, $369 a week = not working for 6 months!!!

Wait a minute, unemployment is $369 a week? thats $9594 for 26 weeks:mad:.. What the hell thats about how much i make a week at my summer job slaving in a kitchen. Well good for you, glad your making a big change and sounds like a killer adventure. Also glad our government is F***in' retarded for handing out massive sums of money (no offense to you).

I wouldnt boast about something like this... In fact it might be illegal. But, thats what wrong with our system... too many ways to take advantage of the system. Not saying your doing anything wrong, but someone in your situation should not be collecting unemployment. Why should tax payers, pay for you to essentially quit your job?

I’m pretty sure the taxes you pay go to welfare and not unemployment. My employer and I pay into unemployment - not the tax payers. That’s why I have to file the claim with the address of the company I worked at for the last 18 months, so division of labor can confirm I was terminated and did not quit or was fired. Also, my company is going to get bought out, which means the marketing dept is the first to go. It's not illegal if they terminate my position.

I mean I have never done this before so I could be denied for all I know, but short story, my position will be terminated, i will be out of work so i will try to collect.

Do you know if you have to remain in the state if you collect?

ok, my apologies then... I can confirm, I really don't know how exactly unemployment works.

Yeah, your employers pay into it, not taxpayers. That is why most companies will deny you. If your boss it cool with it, do it. My company is always kind to employees who quit for good reason. We have people that move back east to families, or whatever the case may be, but as long as they are in good standing, they typically grant unemplyment to them. I am sure that they get tax relief based on their unemployment pay-outs, so in the end, the companies don't lose a ton of money, but companies paying out unemployment to good standing employees as they "quit" etc, is pretty common place. From what I understand.

after 26 weeks though when your states program ends the federal takes over, and i think you can collect up to an additional 60 weeks or something. i don't know the figure, but it's EXTREMELY ridiculous. obummer extended it in compromise of extending the bush tax cuts. that is federally funded. you wanna talk about welfare, social security, or trash those programs? that long of unemployment is way too long. especially if they pay you only $1400 bucks a month. i'm not talking you scobeyville i'm talking the federal payouts. since this obama has been in office there hasn't been a social security raise, and they say there will be a small one next year, but it will break even being medicare costs are going up. really? i thought government health care doesn't go up? you can say obama isn't behind this or it's his administration, but he's letting this happen. if you're getting $1400 bucks a month for over 26 weeks i think it would be cheaper to get a full time minimum wage job or two part time minimum wage jobs, and take home $800-$1000 bucks a month, and the government send you a few hundred dollars in food stamps a month. it still would saves hundreds if not a thousand per month. i'm sure someone here will defend this though, and say we need 96 weeks unemployment, and how this president/administration is so wonderful, and he's not the reason seniors haven't gotten a raise. thats crap cause he's allowing this to happen.

again scobeyville this isn't about you. i've taken 26 weeks unemployment before. if you can get by on it i really have no problem with anyone taking it. as far as the federal unemployment the obama administration has extended i don't begrudge anyone who has taken advantage of it. i point my finger at this administration, and congress for allowing it to go on. enjoy your time off dude, and that may have come out sounding sarcastic, but it's not! have a good move too. don't forget jersey, and your roots though man! haha.

I dont know if anybody wants an update, but here it goes.\r\nI\'ve been out here for exactly 1 month. Blew through a good chunk of money already just getting set up (apartment/furnishings/surfboards/wetsuits/skateboard/car insurance). the smog test in california is such bull****, my car wont pass so i have until 7-31 to get it fixed or i cant drive it... Just got hired at the place i really wanted a job today - more money than my job in ac which is dope. \r\n\r\nI was getting ready to walk down the sketchy trail to blacks and i got a phone call from the ad agency i dropped a resume off at last week. I start Monday 8am, stoked!\r\n\r\nThe girls out here are *****es, but when you look like a homeless guy and drive a ****ty car i guess its inevitable. \r\n\r\n
