Hey everyone, just had a quick question about a board I cam across yesterday. I was on my to a tattoo appointment and I happened to notice this little pawn/consignment shop on the side of the road. After finishing the ink I stopped by on the way home to check it out because they had a handful of boards and wetsuits for sale. The price of the wetsuits were dirt cheap (50 bucks) and some of them looked pretty solid unfortunetly just to small for my rather rotund frame. At anyrate, I was looking at the surfboards (and surf Kayak!) and one of them was a Ron Jon 6'8 tri fin, with indents (??) as the board tapered down to the tail, where the tail then went into a swallow or fish tail not sure which. I'm a bodyboarder, so I know nothing about surfboards. They were selling it for 160 or so and since I had some money left over after the tattoo I was considering it. There were some areas where it looks like the glassing came off, but I suspect the repair work would be manageable. I know if someone is looking to get into surfing, the recommended path is to go with a long board for the stability. Would this board be a feasible alternative as kind of a knock around board? I'm 5'8, 220 stocky frame. I'll be back down in that area for a third tat sitting in three weeks so if it's still there I might nab it. Rez
Generally a RonJon is a Chinese made POS. At 220 lbs, a 6-8 may not have enough meat on it to float your for fast paddling. IMHO, you would be better off learning to surf on a basic longboard. If you bodyboard a lot, you will learn surfing quickly and woould be able to hang on a shortboard before too long,though.

For $160 bucks, you should be able to purchase a water tight board with some pressure dings and anything else should be already patched up before its sold.... Keep on craigslist... You will find the best deals there. But don't invest 160 on a board that still needs repairing. Not worth it...
