No worries, most topics on here change to other things anyway. My downfall was drinking.Kind of learned my lesson when I had no control over my body and almost choked on my own vomit.Kind of left a bad taste in my mouth so to speak.
guys, weed or whatever is a symptom not a cause. people with underlying issues are going to find a way to treat themselves whatever way they can. booze, red bull, sniffing glue, anything, so jumping up on your high horse and moralizing about weed is misplaced, imho..
ask yourself why you thought of that when no one else had any mention of sexual preference. deep down you probably want to.
not on a high horse bud i just know what can happen. if you think ya got the world by the balls and dont need what i have to say thats cool but dont **** on what im putting out to others cuz its a positive and helpful message that could reach someone in need of help.
It's almost impossible to figure out exactly what happened to him/what he did to himself in the days leading up to his death. I do know that it's important for all of us to realize that problems like his have happened to a lot of other people, and could easily happen to you or someone you know. I also think it's kind of weird that a lot of people are skipping over the fact that he was bipolar... Being diagnosed with a mental illness is unfortunately abused by some people (and of course meds are over prescribed), but when it's legit, it's no joke. I don't talk about it to many people but I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder about 6 years ago and it's serious sh*t. I have done things I don't believe and put myself in situations that I shouldn't have, although there are people in A LOT worse shape than me. Point being is if he really had a mental illness (even a mild one) the expectations, stress, and temptations/money etc could easily make like much more complicated and dangerous rather than better.
Interesting thread. I have a couple thoughts to add: First, there was a whole article written after his death, that explained that Andy left Puerto Rico in a somewhat decent conditions, and met up with soem surfers in Miami... He was seen out all night with friends (speculation by bartenders and his mates was that blow was involved that night). The following day is when he was in Dallas... So, lets not forget that all of Andy's "Boys" said that they "partied" with Andy in Miami all night 24 hours before his death... I am not trying to proclaim anything. Just do the math.... Until his death, a lot of us never knew what his behavior was. The Bi-polar disorder. The meth. The drugs. My opinion: Its not the sponsors job to regulate what the surfers do. The ASP and its governing body do not test atheletes for these things, so why would their sponsors... Andy and his cerw were doing meth and blow long before Billabong was ever in the picture. That is what all his camp says... So it is what it is... And not to harp on anyone who has been through it, but this whole "weed gateway drug" stuff is dated back to the days od "D.A.R.E" in the 80s.... If you started with smoking weed, and ended up doing blow and other stuff, that has ZERO to do with the weed. There is no other drug on earth that has the same effects. Yes there are other downers and uppers, but they DO NOT have similar effects what so ever... So if you are one of the guys that took things to the next level, that is because weed was not what you were looking for. You wanted to "PARTY". And we all know what "PARTY" means. Psycadelics. Uppers. Speed. Blow... All the terrible stuff.... So going through some "GATEWAY" from a natural downer into that world is a PERSONAL choice. It has everything to do with your body. Your body wants to be sped up and you want to get chemically imbalanced, then thats on you... But claiming that teenagers smoking joints leads to "bigger better things" is just plain wrong. And I know this for a fact from living in an area that has decriminalzied pot. Teenagers out here doing pot do just that. Pot. They want to sit on the beach, play guitars and goof off with their friends.... There is an entirely different crowd that is looking to go out to the clubs, and meet the women and live the fast life... So that is what that is... Andy was one of those guys.... He wanted the rush. He wanted the imbalanced feeling that these chems gave him.... Pot was not what Andy's body wanted.... Period. He was the other type of guy... But these classifications of gateways and stuff is just bogus to me.... I know too many people who are living proof that it is not the case.... Just cause you have issues and jumped off the deep end into the underworld of drugs doesn't mean you can cop out and blame the grass.... I mean, since when is pot not enough... I dont get what people are out there looking for.... whats the deal? For thousands of years humans have been using THC and Booze... and everything has been fine.... In modern days, people wanted more, and now look at you... its like, damn, getting your buzz on off some beers and jack just insnt good enough anymore? Whats the world coming to....
from the intoxicated equine.... zach, zach, zach...what's with all the logic and sound thinking? what..you think actually knowing some historical context and basic pharmacology really means anything? no one is going to believe that it is common especially for undiagnosed sufferers of imbalances to live a life of self-medication in an often vain and often dangerous attempt to feel "normal." it's foolish to consider the reality that the vast majority of marijuana smokers (and beer drinkers, oddly enough) live normal, stable productive lives. where's your sense of paranoid doom? c'mon.. it's so much easier to blame our personal failings, addictions and tendencies on something else....and then if we can finally kick the habit (ahh the jones is ALWAYS there, though) we can pontificate and lecture from atop our towering steeds. alas, where is the fun if we realize our own experience is more about our individual nature, rather than broad stereotype....you're killin' the (anti)buzz, man!!! peace out http://www.swellinfo.com/forum/images/smilies/cool.png
The only question I have is if you asked 100 people what was the 1st drug you have ever tried, how many are going to say Crack,Coke,or Speed?
No way am I going to ruin my Karma points by reading any of this BS. disclaimer: if the shoe fits, where that ***** Sound like a bunch of weak ass punks running there mouths. Anyone want to run their crap get on a plane and fly over to Kauai and give it a shot,........ and never walk again. The man has passed, he has paid the price. You and I have not yet! So shut your stupid holes. Where the hell are the MODS Now? The Forums have been filled to the brim with weak, shallow, non-intelligent dribble for months now. Someone have some respect and pay some respect and lock this misguided waste of bandwidth.
You read some crazy stuff on here, but this gets right to the point. When I was 17, my buddy and I were driving late at night (when you were allowed) We came upon a car in the middle of the road. Right in the lane. Lights on. Just sitting there, running. I pulled around and we found an older guy and girl passed out in the car. We couldn't revive them. I stayed and my buddy took the car to get help (before cell phones). Then the dude starts doing the funky chicken with foam and crap coming out of his mouth. Ambulance took them away and the EMT said they were going to make it. Remember that movie Scared Straight? I never passed the gateway of weed. And my heart goes out to the whole Irons clan, it's tragic to lose Andy so early.
nice. i think you want 'unintelligent drivel'. or maybe you're just another non-intelligent dribbler...
right. besides no one is talking **** on him . we obviously care or we wouldnt be on here having this discussion. go back thru and read a little and youll find some fairly intelligent insight. except maybe leestud.and me a bit too.
Maybe you are right, but that is coincidence to me. Myself and all of my close friends never breached the level of smoking weed. It all stopped there. At any point in my life, in college or in adult life, if you were hanging out with my crew of friends and you broke out a bag of coke or pills or whatever.... You would be able to hear a pin drop over the crickets chipring and everyone in the room staring at you like you are insane. None of that hard sh** is "socially acceptable"... and myself or my friends never felt the need to "move on" to harder drugs.... My argument to that is that ALCOHOL is "the gateway" much more that pot could ever be.... You ever notice that guys doing blow never want to smoke a joint? That would blow their messed up heart racing high... they do not want that... It usually EXTREME alcohol abuse that mixes with that hard drug crowd. The meth heads, the coke heads... They will pound that booze and mix in the tough stuff... I am only generalizing here based on my own life experiences... but again... He is another theory of mine on the "gateway" stuff.... In America, and in MARYLAND especially they have worked very hard since the 1980s to completely criminalize all substances... Marijuana being #1 on the list due to its easy access.... But the ROOT of the problem is this: Since kindergarten, we have all been arned that marijuana will kill you. It will ruin your life. You could die from smoking. You will wreck your card. You will wreck your life. You will be living in a sleeping bag in an alley just to find your next hit of weed.... The system, the schools and the parents have all gotten on board with the scare tactics involving weed.... And THAT is what built the GATEWAY FOR KIDS.... Weed should have never been grouped with coke, heroin, meth, pills, speed... None of it... Weed and booze could be discussed in the same sentence... But the problem is, kids are told by everyone above them that weed is from the devil. It will kill them and ruin their life... And then at some point, they are sitting in a room with their friends, probably in high school and that joint is passed to them. They nervously think all those thoughts. Their parents. THeir dare officers... OMG, this is intense... And then they smoke the weed.... wait for it.... wait for it.... AND BAM.. Nothing happened. THey are alive. They had a good laugh. They ate some chettos and life goes on... So from that point forward, kids feel like they have been lied to. Its like when you are really young and realize that Santa isnt real... It was all a farse... A lie.... So in that regard, parents and teachers and cops built the WEED gateway if you want to call it that... And its all because they genralize Marijuana with Harder drugs. The coke. The heroin and all that... So when kids finally do the weed and realize that it is NOT a big deal. That life goes on. That they minds and livelyhood has Not been affected... So why should they believe anything is different about the other stuff. When their parents and authority figures all lied to them their whole life...Well they must have lied about it all... Since all those people said that weed is bad like coke etc, then coke must not be that bad..... NOW THAT IS THE GATEWAY.... And yes, I agree that most people probably tried weed first, but again, if you wanted more than weed, you are probably predisposed to addiction and abuse.... Most people dont want their heart racing. Most people dont want to shoot drugs into their veins and fall asleep in their soup.... Most people STOP at Weed. Cause what more could you ask for? I mean, you want to stay up and **** your girl all night. Drink a redbull.... But please, please stop blaming the weed if you are an addict. I have friends that fell into the hard stuff and went through rehab, and not ONE Of them ever blamed the weed. They DID blame the coke. Or the other stuff. That is the devil. That ruined their lives... Not the bud... Im just saying.
Here is my point. Please watch the following youtube video. IT IS REAL. they aired this nationally about 5 years ago. You all saw it. This is the propaganda that America has used to built their own drug gateway, wrongfully categorizing marijuana: The famous MJ drive thru video, where a little girl gets hit by a bunch of stoners in a drive thru. I could not even make this up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKCYDrur_WI So, after seeing that, you feel my point? Everyone should tell their kids not to smoke pot. That its not good for you, especially children and teenagers... but thats all the conversation need to be. Tell them its bad. Dont tell them it will kill them. Or make them run over chldren, or end up in a west baltimore alley.... I mean, walk through any hood in bmore and ask all those fiends when the last time they smoked weed was. I would bet they cant remember.... ADDICTION is coke. Its meth. Its heroin... That shi* is a one and done life killer. You cant even play with that sh** not once... So america needs to deal with that... Addicts need to deal with complete sobriety. Once you cross over into the dark side, there is no coming back. Its always there. Even if you kick it, or clean up. You know you still got the devil deep down in you... And it wasnt the weeds fault... I mean, they were rubbing down with hash oil in the bible thousands of years ago and sippin on wine... I didnt hear the mention of crank and blow 2000 years ago. Its two way different things.... They should be running DRUNK driving ads about kids getting hit by cars. Not stoners at Jack in the Box.
Man, I went like 2 months without posting one of my "way to long" and over written responses. Sorry guys. I was doing so well =)
