When I go Wilmington I can find free parking up on Topsail Island, Wrightsville Beach prices have gotten outrageous.
I would go wrightsville all the way! Multiple options and you can always make a quick trip down to SC if you don't like the waves
I managed to get up on a couple waves but nothing consistent
If you can find someone to take you out on a boat masonboro island can have good waves at times
