so yesterday at work i split my head open and had to go to the good old ER to get put back together. i know you cant really get stitches wet so i convinced the doctor to give me staples instead. i absolutely hate staying out of the water for more then a day or two so im going to go crazy if i have to stay dry for 7-10 days. am i gona be alright surfin with these things in my head or should i just prepare myself for 10 days of misery?

Just call your doctor...be realistic and explain to him what you wrote above (but of course with all the necessary "I am very careful language...). If he gives you the go great if not, and he recommends to stay dry for 7 days...no problem...shape a board...its practically flat anyway...

yeah I second the 'its practically flat anyway'... Hell, just be thankful it happened now and not when there are actually some waves

ya bro not sure where you live but the ocean has been flat and looks to remain flat for a while...charts show a little spike for next week in my area but i dont believe anything that is more than 1-2 days out. This is the east coast.... GL

Split your head at work? Sounds like you have a worker's comp case. Claim extreme migraines and buy a 1-way ticket to Indo until "the headaches" go away ;)

I would not surf until the staples are out. You risk two things, 1. Infection, in May I took a longboard fin to the leg and got 50 stitches, it got infected pretty seriously, had to go on hardcore antibiotics. The antibiotics had severe side effects that prevented menfrom doing anything physical. 2. If your skin gets water logged the staple may come out. If the staples come out or get damaged they cannot re-staple it.
If you vet an infection in your head you will most likely end up in the hospital, if the infection where to get into your brain you're screwed.
It's just not worth it, stick it out.
I was out of the water for 5 weeks with my injury.

Stitches on a leg or arm and the waves are worth it, maybe.

But head gash? No way, too close to the brain. You get bacteria in there you're toast.

    Wait it out.
