The worst part about this is, the storms over, suns tryin to peak out at that point, yet the cops follow orders to keep people off the avenue and the boardwalk? Come on police, how can you blindly follow such stupid orders to keep people away from the avenue itself? This sh*t pisses me off big time, and yea come a few more weeks, there will be no tax payers $$ put into preventing this from happening. All about the summer media man. Bogus.

as much as i hate seeing us prohibited to surf at our own risk (like they did for the video, until an hour passed), its annoying to hate on cops for this reason. the road could have been closed due to many things: 1)all that sand buildup needed to be cleaned 2)ocean ave is a fast method of transportation up and down belmar (for emergency responses in 45+ mph winds or previous damages during the storm) and blocking it could be bad (see parkway closure) 3)dangerous winds could knock things over and injure people 4)going into big surf IS dangerous (but they dont understand we do this all the time) the cops just want people to be safe, and just like some movies, the method for highest safety is prevention in this case. i disagree with them, but i dont necessarily see them doing anything wrong at least, in the end, everyone was happy
why do the police follow orders? maybe they have a family to feed.. but sure, ridicule them for being '****s'. i know you're all the unique snowflakes that do it all winter, but when the majority of people in an area really dont know better than to wander near danger, the dangerous area gets shut down and not even your 'but im special' licenses make you exempt. its cool what these guys did, just rushing past... but the camera man who goes 'can you close such a thing [the boardwalk]?' in an attempt to mock the cop should know that yes, you can close private property to the general public okay so i wrote that after about a minute of watching... then the mindless herd gets involved and jumps on the 'f the po po' bandwagon. nothing that is occurring even applies to any of them but they all whip out their video recording devices and shout insults to the cops. then the surfers who i at least had some respect for, for doing something cool, come back holding up their boards to the applause of the peanut gallery like they are heroes. i noticed a fire engine among the police cars.. didnt see anyone clapping for those guys? the ones that get paid squat and risk their lives (occasionally) to save the lives of others. so much is wrong with this video that even this wall of text doesnt even scratch the surface
yeah everyone hates the cops until they find the asshole who hit their car and ran, stole their board, or who went through their house when they were in Puerto Rico surfing it up
See it's funny. Cops, like everyone else, have a job to do. Whether you like it or not, they take orders and have to follow them. Why do people feel the need to act like douche bags and try to taunt them when they are only doing their job. Please, let them know where YOU work so they can stop by and heckle you for doing something your boss made you do. And I really like the kid who said "... get a real job". Son, cops protect people every day and do so without asking for a 'good job' or 'thank you'. THEY put their lives on the line. The majority of people don't have the balls to do their jobs, yet you get people like this who just have to open their big mouths to yell insults. Here's an idea, next time you actually need a cop to help you out in a situation, try to handle it yourself. See how well that goes.
if someone who can't swim or can't swim well doesn't know enough to stay away from the ocean after a hurricane, then screw 'em. that's darwinism at work. the smartest, most fit, members of a species survive to pass their genes on to the next generation. it's the libertarian in me that is annoyed w/ the cops in this video. yes, they're just doing their job...but the fact that it was shut down at all is ridiculous. oh, & the boardwalk is PUBLIC property...held by the gov't in TRUST for the citizenry. it is in no way private property. saying that the closure is for "safety" is a sham...it's to protect their own asses from a potential lawsuit if someone moron does decide to go swim & drowns. i have a cousin that is a state trooper, so don't confuse me w/ some cop-hating moron. i just think that people need to be allowed to exercise their common sense before that concept withers away permenantly in our society...& they need to reap the consequences of poor choices as well. if someone wants to go surf after a hurricane & they get in trouble, that's on them. no one should be going to save them.
the police followed orders,the losers taunting them weren't surfing for some strange reason,and the one surfer i do know who did paddle out there is a loser punk who's daddy supports his punk ways,so,yeah,they could see these guys rip and let them surf,but we as the surf community don't look good here at all,either
There's a legal civil action suit called "Wrongful Death," in which case, the best case scenario for the township is $100,000 or more of legal fees....to not have to pay millions to those suing on behalf of the deceased. During the winter, there's no legal commitment to guarding, whatsoever. In contrast to the winter, there's enough of an implied commitment to guarding during the hurricane season, that it would be easier to argue the township's guilt in a wrongful death suit. Our legalistic, sue-happy society makes it extremely common for authorities to be sued for not acting appropriately to prevent the death from occuring, so this is what we get. I wonder who's mommy would've sued if one of those guys never paddled back in and how many people would be blaming the police for the 15' foot fence that eventually would go up along the beach. You wanna blame somebody? Blame the ambulance-chasing lawyers & families that cash in on their dead. By the way, I like the spirit of the young bucks charging the surf. Good stuff on their part.
