Round 2 is looking much better... They are actually able to get some speed and there are decent chest high pockets.... I knew it would get better, but that day 1 sh** was terrible. Surfline posted like 40 photos and they were all crap... Desouza was killing it today. The ASP guys say that the brazillians have an upper hand on the head high beach breaks.... 10s this week will have to be a nice little in and out barrel with a huge air at the end... one or the other wont cut it....
I'm confused... Martinez won his heat right? Then why was he so angry? It he lost, I could better understand him being upset... I don't get it.
Bobby did win.... hes just upset about the "wild cards" taking down some big names in crappy surf yesterday and this morning... He just likes to hear himself talk i think. But my question is, does Slater get a free pass in round three or does Bede get put in in Bobbys place?
Isn't that how almost any comp goes with the wild cards getting a chance to take out the higher seeds. My guess is that anger is being flared up because of how much money is on the line. $11,000 just for being seeded in the comp.
Maybe I am being a bit pissy here, but bro, get that negative **** outta here. Plus the comparision with the spot in CA you posted a few back, w/e man, they'll be in trestles soon enough. Yea we get it, not ideal conditions, but I as well as most ppl around this area are pretty excited for the tour to stop so close to home. I think its pretty damn amazing. Plus, next 2 days should be legit
Ya,Today was really fun to watch. The announcer's and pro's seemed pretty stoked to be there which I thought was pretty cool.Really looking forward to seeing this tomorrow. It should be fun to watch.I was watching my bud paddle out tonight and it was pretty nasty out there with some good size.
I feel you man. Im not trying to be specifically negative. We have all been talking about this event for 2 months. How it would be. What the swell would be like. When they will run it... Im just saying, I dont care about what coast its on. What location its on... That day 1 was nasty. I dont care what continent you live on. This is the asp world tour. This is not the CT, or a local qualifier. This is Slater and Friends, showing up to dominate NYC for a few weeks and that first day was not professional grade conditions... Here is the best photo I could find from that first day... and if this is the best one out there, thats not ASP quality... Like I also said though. Day 2 (Today), the conditions were MUCH better. No barrels or anything, but at least the guys were letting loose and being able to punt and get speed up. I just think today would have been a much better starting point, with better swell and better conditions to follow. I think surfing ALL waves is important to judge who is the best in the world... But it turns into a how small is too small. How windy is too windy kinda thing for me.... I just think that better days are coming... I guess you gotta start somewhere... There were like 100,000 people on the beach that first day... All stoked out... It just wasnt a great day for conditions. Slater said something after day 1 like "Yeah, im excited, I really hope we can actually get out there and showcase what we do. Hopefully we will be able to this week." .. That kind of comment was a passive way of saying, well today was worthless, I really hope we can get some better surfing in this week. I was just reading between the lines. We have all been discussing the what ifs on this site for months... Some guys hoped it would suck and prevent further events, thus preventing a further onslought of surf tourism and buzz around their already crowded scene. Some guys wanted it to be epic to showcase the area... Either way, its exciting. We are all talking about this event more than Teahupoo last month... so that certainly says something.... This was by far the most hyped, anticipated event of the year. All the other spots have been what they always are, which is why they are always tour stops. This event is exciting just based on the possibilities.
Yeah, I did in the 80s then went to the 1mm jacket and finally to the ss full. of the three I like the ss full the best.
That was so sick, what a stud! Taj was crushed by that, he had a great heat, put the pressure on and Slater pulls that off. What a badass!
That was amazing. I was doing everything I could to keep quiet while I watched it at work. It was amazing.
