I just vomited after reading that ad... Not only is "Holister" the epitome of how marketing has destroyed surf culture, but it's namesake, Holister Ranch, is an area of wave rich coastline blocked from public access by selfish wealthy land owners.
i say buy it then come up with a really creative way to destroy it and send the video to youtube and hollister.
how is it not "real" ?? It appears to be foam and glass and shaped like a surfboard, even if it was never meant to be used... Great find though lol.
well played sir! ... most people dont even realize the humor in the reality of what "The Ranch" really is... But I must say, thanks to those wealthy land owners, they have preserved the west coasts last private surf region... although anyone in CA knows how to access it one way or another.... Its magic... 19 out of 20 people wont even go after it... the place is world class! Protected by "The Abercrombie of surfing"... But for real, every bar I walk into, every local pub that have these well shaped, beautiful boards hanging from the rafters, with beer ads, and local labels on them, it makes me so sad... I just look at a real, shaped board, that has the ability to be shredded, sitting in the rafters of some a-holes bar, or some department store.... makes me shed a tear... its like, there should be a rule... you cannot retire, or wallmount a board, until it has had its cherry popped on a real wave... its just not right... even if its a 9 foot "Coors light" board... it deserves a chance to get wet... even just once.
I think most of the display boards are not actual boards, but hollow plastic molds that can't be used. Just like fake computers in model homes haha.
90% of the bar display boards are shaped by Peter Benjamin, who I think is a respected shaper. http://www.peterbenjaminsurfboards.com/promo.html ...but every time i see one of them on CL or Ebay, its comes with the tagline "Rare"
Duke Hollister???? those shapes have a juicy liquid center.....the shop is in Hackensack!!! sorry,....i also had to.
The DogTooth Bar and Grill in Wildwood is like that . Its owned by the same guy who owns Kona Sports and he had a cpl Canyon's on the walls there. Last year to Took my girls to the water park on Mariner's landing and thy had tons ok longboards like Surfboards Austraila, Challanger and Canyon bolted to post and on the supports for the cabana's they have there. I am not surprised someone didnt sneak in there in the winter and take them . All you would have to do to get it water tight is fill the holes up with suncure.
Dude, thats funny, cause about 10 years ago, I bought a Peter Benjamin, Channel bottom, thurster with a super flat entry rocker and like almost 3 inches thick... It was my attempt at messing around on a retro board.... I think he shaped it in the early 90s.... But as a matter of fact, i took it out and had some pretty sick days with it... the shaping quality was pretty good too... Its a shame to hear he sold out to the "man" and is churning out coors light boards.... I never thought about the empty, hollow display boards. All the boards ive picked up or touched in the local bars around here were real.... Im sure the ones in the malls etc arent maybe, but i never thought of that. I do remember seeing a sick little shortboard out in the front of ahollister store, I was half tempted to just snatch it and run... surf it once, then bring it back to them... give the board the action it deserves!
