I like it when the winter comes. I get the beach back to myself. And get to be in the outdoors when most people are stuck inside watching tv.

It's my favorite time of year. Sick of cicadas and the humidity with them. Crowds definitely thin down. I've taken to (guilty feelings here) telling my students that if they are going to learn to surf the only time to surf in DMV is in the summer. Most people can't deal with the cold anyway and still see this stuff in the old summertime in malibu scenario, especially if they are beginners. I am perfectly content with that. From a safety standpoint, If there be crowds, at least let it be when it's knee to waist, not head-plus shacks.

Sitting on my front porch, warm cup of coffee in hand, crisp air...baseball AND football today, waiting for the next swell. Sweet.

I love coming over the dune to see no crowds and steam off the ocean with lines marching in for the select few...

The fall has always been my favorite time to surf.

I love the brisk mornings when you roll up to the beach to check it, with your hoodie, and coffee in hand, knowing that its going to be the best surf youve seen in three months. Nothing beats it. Especially putting on a one mil or a 3/2 whe the water is about 75 and the air is barely 60.
