I surfed South the other day, at it seems there was a tad too much testosterone in the water. Dudes were being overly aggressive. I know the waves were good and everyone wanted to get a fair amount of them, but the overall brutal attitude of many ("thanks for getting in my way motherfu_ker", "hey dude, fu_K you", etc) was out of control. These terms of endearment weren't geared towards me, but I heard them over and over. The summer crowds are gone and it's mainly local guys out there, so what's with all the aggressiveness/attitudes?
It's always been that way. If anything things have gotten tamer over the past few years. Also I think mid September with right conditions brings the most crowds all year. A 3-4 foot swell with offshore winds and perfect temps along with hurricane hype swell makes for the perfect storm. Expect to surf with 40 of your best friends.
I do everything i can to not paddle out where it's crowded. A crowd will totally ruin my stoke. I'd rather go to a spot not working as well or more difficult to get to to avoid crowds.
today two guys at queen were in the way i think on purpose, one hit my submerged tail while we sat and also launched his board at me and hit me while i was paddling into a wave, never said a word either time, followed me around and sat right behind me.went to gurney and it was better waves, anyway
Thats how it is in CM . Everyone tires to flex and hug the rock pile even if they are not in the best postition they think cause the are closest to the rocks its there wave. Best thing you can do is hold your ground dont hesitate and flex back . If you show your not some tool usually they back off . I had some guy I never seen before in CM try it with me today. He was droping in on everyone . I let him get away with it twice third time I wasnt polite
I don't see a lot of that crap. Maybe cause I'm not a kid or I know most of the people at the places I surf. That would suck to deal with situations like that. If I was getting crap directed at me I'd first look at what I was doing to maybe deserve it. If I was doing nothing wrong I definitely settle that sh#t right then and there. If those dudes think your a ***** and can be intimidated then they own you. If you’re by your self it may be better to leave - no telling what can happen. You can always come back with your boys to even things up but that stretch of beach better be worth it. Respect is earned not given.
aggro d i c k s are always the same its just now the summertimers are gone and they have to direct the d i c kness to whoevers around and claim the spot for the winter. they usually dont even have that much fun surfing anyway cuz of all the effort put out trying to be the man. avoid it at all cost but if it comes down to it a good a s s whuppin usually sets em straight. p.s. im not trying to be bad a s s but now and then ya gots to step out the car
People are such d!cks at my home spot, when you're traveling you gotta watch who you tell where you're from. Aussies are always looking for revenge cuz they or someone they know got jumped by the local crew.
HAHAHAHA...Definitely not trying to be aggro on the "what's up with the aggressive behavior" thread. Bodhi rips anyways so how can I blame the guy (or girl) for creating such a great name.
Serious as a heart attack. I didn't bother to search the forum to see what names were or weren't taken. I chose this one and stuck with it, and definitely not going to change it anytime soon. That movie is absolutely classic and Swayze is the man, so I gave him his due respect for the great character he played. "It's basic dog psychology, if you scare them and get them peeing down their leg, they submit. But if you project weakness, that promotes violence, and that's how people get hurt."
That girl that showed up later was horrible. Just because you have a pair of tits doesn't mean you can drop in on people honey.
I'm not a big fan of women in the line-up. It always seems to make the "tough guys" flex their muscles even more. And if the girl is friends with some of the local guys, she pretty much can drop in on whoever she wants. I was out last year on a 6-8' day, near perfect conditions, and just a great day to be surfing. The crowd wasn't that bad, but there were about 5 "local guys" and this one girl about 25 years old. She knew these guys well and she had no respect at all for the rest of the surfers out there. She would sit deeper than me and paddle for every wave that came my way. She let about 6 perfect rights go to waste because she didn't have the skill to take off on these waves. So after the sixth wave went to waste, I started pushing her deeper and just taking off on every wave that came near us. All she could do at that point was sit there and get in the way of the other guys that she was there with.To be fair though, I have surfed with some talented girls before who were perfectly respectable. I guess the ones who piss you off stick in your mind more.
