For guys that follow the hurricanes, do you think this one will make land fall or sweep back out to sea? Recent tracking shows a straight Western path. What do you make of this one? If it hits coast, when can we expect it hitting VA and upwards? I just hope it doesn't cause more damage like Irene did!

No, go look on NOAA site. Ophelia is a real hurricane with 60+mph winds, and tracking pure West now. I'm sure it was classified as a hurricane.

You are right bb, it is just a storm. I'm reading now that wind shear should tear it apart well before chance of landfall so that's great news for coastal folks...maybe not so good for advanced surfers :)

computer models were showing it taking a similar path to katia, and maria. one question though.

why does it seem this year the storms are more favorable to ride up the coast? just talking with my family who live in florida about how they don't get as many hurricanes as they used, and they all seem to be coming up here now. now north carolina gets storms a lot, but hasn't had landfall in a few years before irene. it's not rare, but i just remember when florida got a lot of the storms, and not even just the ones that formed in the gulf.

computer model shows that it will intensify to a Cat 4 with all the storm's energy being felt in all parts of PA within a 40 minute drive of Belmar. Gnarly.

gruvi "for those that follow hurricanes". yeah, i'd rather research wind swells instead.

its funny, but seriously bro take Mr. Swellinfo's advice and read the posts till you know enough to get involved. it was funny to laugh at our irrelevant posts, now it's getting annoying.

Ophelia, i hate that name, but hopefully i'll love it after it passes. come to wrightsville beach, please

This gruvi kid is something else. He is either a really maladjusted 30 something thats jerking everyone's chain or a teen looking for attention. Dude give it a rest, just let it go. The 3000 word intro was ridiculous, I'm having a hard believing anyone can be that much of a kook. The truly sad part is that like me many others have been suckered into your silly game.

If this Ophelia is as good as the previous Ophelia (2005) you will finally be glad you live in the southeast. Best week of surfing since i've moved here in 2004.
