I'm heading to Dublin for work in the middle of November. Will likely have a little downtime and would love to get over to the coast and try to catch a few. Based on your experiences, anybody have any specific thoughts for me on where to head? Would prefer to minimize travel time between Dublin and the coast. Gonna rent a board, so if you have any thoughts on a shop you like out on the coast that would help too. Thanks comrades.
You're kind of the opposite of where you want to be. Best bet would be the Donegal Bay. Head up to the Sligo area and go to whatever specific break based on the swell and wind direction. There's more variety there. So, you should be able to find something decent. There are other places in the south west area, but it's more of a crap shoot (depending on swell/wind obviously). Not really sure on where to rent though.
I'll be back there in a week. Pm me if you want the info. Be warned though - you will be at least 3 hrs from any surfable wave. Oh yeah and its cold...always.

i have nothing practical to add to this thread. but i will say please let us know how this goes! ireland is high on my list of places to visit purely for culture's sake, but i'd like to get some surf there if i can...
Hit up the Donegal Adventure Center in Bundoran to rent a stick in the NW. Or the green room in Lahich if your in the SW. They also do surf trips from Dublin to the West every weekend and will set up accomadation depending on where the swell is. I lived over looking the Peak for 10 years and my favorite wave in the world was just around the corner. The cold, damp, dreary weather is only made bearable by the world class surf and Guinness at Madden's Ould Bridge Bar. Tell them Jersey sent you.
