I've never been to DR, but they do get surf.

take a look at the Swellinfo forecast for Puerto Rico:
    http://www.swellinfo.com/surf-forecast/san-juan-puerto-rico.html

Looks like a decent size easterly wind swell picking up this week. So, this should make it into the east coast where you are staying, but conditions will likely be choppy with onshore winds.

I would absolutely bring your board.

i went there for my birthday like 4 years ago in march and didnt have a board. but i do remember seeing a break like a mile off the beach at my resort so it would be a long ass paddle. me and my dad went out in a boat to go snorkleing which got us to that break but it was high tide by then and the waves were a little mushy. however when we got there, we could see another break even further away from that...... but definatley bring a board to do some exploring and even if the waves suck, exploring is still fun. they also sell weed right outside the resorts on the beach. and i would guess most of the breaks there are all gonna be reefs

    have fun

    ???

just checked flight regulations for Continental. It says there is an excess baggage embargo to D.R. Is this legit? are they going to reject my board if i try to check it? can you rent/buy board in or anywhere near punta cana?

go to the continental and read all the regulations. All the airlines are enforcing big time enforcements and oversized luggage now. Some will not allow surfboards, while others are just charging.
