My friend listens to music when he goes diving but i dont know about surfing. Would the headphones even stay in? God forbid you lost it somehow, expensive mistake. Definitely wouldnt be listening to music in a heavy crowd though, easy way to cause a problem.
for those of you with Verizon, its the casio commando... its the outdoors/ military smartphone (touhscreen) that has pre loaded tide charts swell information and weather, and its waterproof! i have about 300 songs on it and i hit play, tuck it in my wetsuit resting on my collarbone and go out for an hr or two session and its fine. they say a half hour full sumbersion is what its tested to but in a two hour session i may only be submerged past the shoulders for 10 or fifteen minutes in total... definitely a good buy if yuou have verizon and like surfing
I haven't looked at these Swellinfo forums in ages. I somehow find myself scanning them today, and lo and behold, I see this thread. Never surf with a ****ing electronic device. If you do, you're missing the point.
I've tried snowboarding while listening to music, not a huge fan. I'm not exactly sure why, but it just doesnt feel good. I think one of the reasons most of us enjoy something like surfing is because we're able to "tune out" the world, not in a couch potato sense, but because it's something that we are concentrating on so hard that we have no time to think about other things. No time to think about work, relationships, school, or any other responsibilities that would otherwise be on your mind when you're scratching to get outside for example. We have so little of this "focused" time in our lives, I think that using an ipod out there and flipping through songs would kind of "snap you out of it" and keep your mind multitasking when you could be tuned in to yourself. Or maybe listening to some metal might get you so pumped up you're surf your a s s off. Who knows...
Bottomline is if you listen to an iPod while surfing, chances are you will get weeded out and quit surfing within a few years and move onto the next cool thing. Cmon this whole idea is for retards that have no idea how to appreciate what you have!
I would love to know why it is that everytime somebody asks a simple question on these forums there needs to be at least half of the answers saying how something ruins surfing or how the person is a "kook". Nobody asked about the point of surfing on this post so why bother saying music ruins the experience. I'm pretty sure that on different posts 90% of the people on this forum agreed to listening to music to pump them up before surfing, doing it in the water is not much different at all. Now if you don't have something related to the actual topic please gtfo this post.
