    what kind of sick?

For me, sometimes when I surf, it leads to sinus and ear infections...

if you get ear infections, use ear plugs and/or use ear drying solution after you get out of the water... use plugs when the cold water comes to avoid surfers ear. For general sinus infection, use a neti pot, as suggested, which will help wash some of the bacteria and stuff that can get trapped in there.

Another thing, after your done surfing and take your wetsuit off... Bend over towards your toes for a minute or two, and that will help drain your sinuses..

Surfed filthy brown water several days over the last couple weeks... water getting forced up my nose so deep I was coming up choking on it. Have not gotten sick yet. Maybe it's not the water?

Although I'm not totally convinced it's the water quality causing your illness, we have severe water quality issues nonetheless... particularly when it rains. Everybody knows that if it rains a certain amount over a certain period of time, many older sewer systems, like those in New York, are designed to overflow directly into the Hudson River. So when this occurs, both stormwater runoff (and everything it carries) along with raw, untreated sewage, flows directly into the river, which flows into the Harbor and out into the ocean. If it didn't do that, raw sewage would spurt up through manholes in the city. This happens on average about once a week, according to Riverkeeper statistics. About a tenth of an inch of rain an hour, or four tenths per day, is all it takes to trigger a CSO - Combined Sewage Overflow. This adds up to about 27 billion gallons of raw sewage making its way into the ocean each year. Currently, there are 40+ outfall locations on the New Jersey side of New York Harbor, but many more on the New York side. But in our state alone there are a total of nearly 300... all of them from North Jersey municipalities, including Trenton, without ocean beaches. NONE of them are in Monmouth, Ocean, Atlantic, or Cape May Counties, as far as I know. Nice, right? We get to surf and fish in their sh!t, while they stay high and dry.
