I have a slice in my oniell mutant, right in the thick part of the belly, down to the cloth. Wondering what the best solution to this is. I was thinking about 3m 5200 marine adhesive, but curious to hear other suggestions thanks in advance
Before sewing it together- i would just try the glue. I have used it plenty and its pretty strong. Get the oneil glue or other WETSUIT glue which is like rubber contact cement ( i used the goop and did not like - rashes...). Local dive shops sell the stuff - called Trident. BUT make sure to follow the application directions. You cant go wrong with this stuff! If it does not hold- get out the dental floss! Yo bro sent you a pm with more info
Whatever you do DON'T use AquaSeal tube product unless it's specifically (thin, not thick) neoprene glue. The thick stuff will void any warranty you happen to have on the suit, and it just winds up becoming big chunks that cause a rash, or more/bigger holes. The best approach is a vulcanizing process, coat both surfaces lightly and let them dry apart, after a few minutes press them face to face (as walking mentioned above) and hold them until the connection is secure.
hey i have a similar question. My oneill psychofreaks zipper lost some teeth somehow and the whole zipper ended up coming off of the wetsuit. It looks like I need a whole new zipper set up. Does anyone know of any good wetsuit zipper repairs or stores in the vb area that would offer this repair? Or am i better off just sending it in to oneill and getting it fixed? thanks for the help
I had an issue with my Mutant and i just took it to the shop i got it from and they contacted Oneill and ordered me a new on, hopefully I will get it in 2 weeks they said. If you contact Oneill yourself they will want you to send them your suit dry and clean, and then eventuality send you a new one, or your old one just repaired. If it's your only suit then i would definitely go through the shop you got it from.
How'd it hold up? I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I've got some leftover 5200 from some boat repairs that I've got 24-48 hrs to decide how to use up.
Read my above post from a few years ago. Don't use that stuff- it will dry hard and will be a pain/rash. It might work... and seal the suit- but the real wetsuit cement works better. Get the wetsuit cement- its like rubber cement. if its a clean cut this will work great. I have used it numerous times without having to re-apply.
I've picked up a few different wetsuit/neoprene cement products. If you need names I can see what they are. Not very expensive and can be found easily at some shops and on Amazon. I second the last post about avoiding chemicals that aren't guaranteed to not hurt your skin. Do you want your boys getting rashed just from using the wrong wetty product?
^+1 I used a neoprene cement as suggested by walkingonh2o. I used a product by "block surf" available from my local surf shop and it has held up fine. It works like contact cement. Put it on both sides. Let it cure for ~5 minutes, then press together. Read the instructions, as your product may differ.
