    Continuing the off topic tangent...
Hahaha... Nazi old ladies have been ruling SunCatcher since it was just a 15x20 addition to the Mimi Shop in 1981. I worked there in the early-mid 80s, and was the only surfer on the payroll for some time. Before I worked there, they were clothing only. Granted, I was nowhere near "running the place", but I was the connection to the surfing community. I was in charge of the daily surf report, and anytime anyone wanted to buy a board, they were directed to me. The owner is a great guy, and knew the value of becoming a "real surf shop" even though the money is all about the clothing. We started to stock boards, wax, wetsuits, skateboards, and even for a few years produced some boards with a SunCatcher label. I may have the only surviving SunCatcher board from that era. They were actually really nice boards, shaped by Tom Eaton from Red Bank. Later, Tod (who would eventually open TBH in Avalon) worked there too. Actually, the owners sons kinda ran the place after I graduated from college, and had to move on to a real job. It was a great place to work. It was all positive vibrations during my tenure.

To get back on topic, we did have one guy who worked there for a while who was kinda an aggro Avalon local. He once dropped in on my brother, who then fell. Mr. Aggro perceived this fall as an intentional shooting of the board on my brother's part, and paddled over, got all in my brother's face and punched his board, right in the stringer on the bottom.

Tho I saw the front end loaders moving sand today, so prob not gonna last.

+1 f them, always get a we're better than you vibe in there, plus I let a good friend of mine, who wanted to start surfing again after a long lay off, go in there alone to buy a board and walked out with a 6'6' DHD shortboard that some kid told him was a good board to start on LOL, on the bright side I love that board and got it for nothing.

Speaking of moving sand, did you notice what they were doing between the pipe and the Brighton Pl, Jetty? (north end ferris wheel) They dug a giant hole between the pipe and the jetty with the displaced sand up front at dead low tide. That will definitely be underwater for the few hours around high and it totally destabilized all the sand. Who is telling this bulldozer what to do and what is their logic?

    rage at waverly

I was surfing waverly a few weeks back and this old bald dude in a Capt\'n John\'s sleeveless wetsuit was getting all aggro. I took off on the peak on a chest + day and he drops in on me. When I confront him, I wasn\'t going to yell at him, he flips out and complains how it\'s his peak and no one else should surf his peak. The guy sucked and could barley hold the peak so I just paddled around him and ignored him. This guy sounds like the same guy you all are complaining about. \r\n\r\nAnd stayabovetheweather I checked out your http://www.stayabovetheweather.blogspot.com/ and rad the Declaration of Stay Above the Weather and I love it! It\'s exactly what I have been looking for and speaks to me. Everyone should check it out! \r\n\r\nSurfing is a great way to Stay Above the Weather!

I was in Tavarua, Fiji aka CloudBreak. It was triple oh long period swell and as the set came i took got totally pitted spit out and in front of me i saw a guy drop in, for the third time. Fueled by andrenaline i quickly reached for my diving knife quickly jabbing him in the gut as i passed over top the lip. I then told him now your at the mercy of the sea and gods creatures shall hold you accountable, and finished a pretty fun session.

waveryly wasn't working before I left. north to 5th were the better areas. I have never yelled at anyone. I have given glares which usually work since I am a large guy at 6'3 225. Or I nicely inform them to not drop in or make sure you look both ways. Getting crazy upset is useless, but if I were you guys and being blatenly disrespected, I would say something. Truth is, no one owns the ocean, and if the person who is new to the lineup is acting normal and not doing anything stupid, who cares if he shares the waves with you. People are stupid plain and simple

I saw they had a large pile of sand right between jetty & pipe , I saw it right around dead low (3ish), I didn't see the hole but figured they were trying to fill in some of the sand they've lost there. They were spreading it south towards music pier from what I could see. Figured they would spread the pile before dark, doubt they left it for the tide.

...i know who your talking about. Also, the two sons run SC now. And regarding TBH, bought my first board from there. 5'9 cannible roundnose fish. Still have the ol' TBH NJ stickers on my beach crusier. I used to be the little **** grom that sat in the duct taped/stickered up chair and watch surf movies all day. Also, I wish i was around for New Vision surf shop. heard that place was killer

1994 Oahu, at a place called "The Circle", (no need to give the exact location)....Im white as hell and paddle out on my 6'8" WRV, brand new, carbon fiber reinforced stringer,etc,etc....because I dont know shiz, I paddle out like its a beach break...big mistake.....set comes...I get caught in a reef "boil", cant move......local makes the drop, turns and runs me over like a freight train....I come up, gasping.......hole right in the middle of the stringer from his nose....."You ruined my 10 pointah!" he barks inches from my face....as I prepare for the punch, surpisingly he winks, smiles, and paddles back to the peak.......day one in Hawaii.
Another time was at V-Land with my good friend......my friend gets a bunch a shiz from a local for no reason......calls he to the beach for "beef".....we go in....local sees my friend not backing down, not saying anything, and standing his ground......local barks a few more words then walks away...good move considering my friend was a Captain for Amphibious Assault, Marines.....combat veteran.....
Surfing gets weird sometimes, but try not to throw gas on the fire. In the ocean, there are bigger things to worry about more than other surfers.

One time i was surfing with brob. brob dropped in on kook with soft top. kook falls, brob fall. kook stands up, brob is on my board and accidently shoots it up and hits the kook in the head with it. brob didn't realize he had done any of this while the kook was yelling at brob. the end.

I'm on my 9'6" and catching quite a few waves while shortboarders are struggling with some non-committal, mushy waves. I am always respectful about letting others get into waves, though, especially in that type of situation, and honestly I wasn't doing anything wrong. So I paddle into a wave, turn backside and as I'm headed down the line some aggro guy is paddling out, probably upset that the waves aren't good for his negative 3'7" performance board that day (ahem, should've looked at the report before leaving home with only one board), and he starts yelling at me. I couldn't really make out what he was saying at first but then it becomes clear that he's cussing wildly while repeating, "You've gotta go somewhere on that thing, brooaahh!" and some other babble. Meanwhile I'm 3/4 of the way up on the nose and headed straight down the line. After I take the wave all the way to the beach I paddle back out, smile, wave him a (hopefully) annoyingly goofy hello, and enjoy the rest of the morning.

\r\n \r\nIMO Waverly is way over rated. It does have nice rights and works when other beaches don\'t but for the most part I think its just ok. I surf it about a dozen or so times a year when I get talked into going there. I have never had any confrontations there but you do feel somewhat not welcome but that dosent really bother me as long as no one gets in my face. Everyone wants to protect their local break in some way or another so it dosent become Great Adventure. When new people show up at my local - I may not welcome them with open arms but I sure dont try to intimidate them either. I judge each person individually and give them enough rope to hang themself if they so desire. Regarding Heritage OC - again - no problems - bought several boards there new and used and never had an issue but I only deal with a few guys there. Not sure who the dragon lady is but I\'ll be on the lookout. Also - Surfers Supplies - another good shop.

    engine-powered surf rage

    One man's humble opinion:
That new Walden Wavejet board (set for delivery to customers this-coming spring) combined with ever-greater numbers of 'surfers' in the ocean (thanks Nike) will create a lot of friction amongst people in the water & on the breaks this summer.

After 2012, as the price of the Wavejet drops & the technology improves, expect an increasing number of people zooming around our breaks.

    Motorized surf rage...

all the guys I surf with have a pact that if anyone shows up with one of these things, we will block them so they don't catch a single wave.

Waverly huh, I want to run into this dude now. I feel like anything above North street the vibe just sucks in the water, everyone is pist off. I remember this one dude a few years back in this bright red wetsuit was literally freaking the F out every time he didn't take off on a wave. It was funny to watch him screaming at the ocean, relax man.

But funny thing about ocnj no matter where you paddle out at on the island, if you alone or with one or more buddies, most people think its a open invite to paddle out within 5 feet of you.

Spread out man! I mean whatever it is what it is. If I find myself fighting for a peak, I go find another one where I can have'em all to myself.

I think I ran into the same chick at Heritage, never had a conversation with her, but I will now.
