For christmas my family is getting me a custom shaped board and i'm not exactly sure what i want. I was hoping for a mix between a fish and a shortboard that will be good in both larger and smaller waves. I was thinking maybe getting 6'0 or 6'1. Don't have any ideas on dimensions or anything so i was hoping for suggestions. Thank and merry christmas! EDIT: im 6'1, 165. Althought my name says bodyboardnj ive been surfing for about 2 years and intermediate skill level. I can stand up in head high waves no problem and am starting to get cutbacks and whatnot.
Ok, let's see... Assuming that you're 6'11" tall, 135lbs, and have been surfing on the WCT for about 8 years, I'd say that you need something with the following dimensions: 5'11" x 30.5" x 1 1/2", preferably with a double winger moon tail and hard V all the way through the bottom. 5-fin setup with a long-board fin box in the middle, of course! (now... if I can just get my tongue unstuck from the inside of my cheek, I'll get back to the holidays) Merry Christmas Jersey sponger and Congrats on moving to the standup game!!!
hahahahahaha.... holy sh1t thats funny. jersy body boarder put up your specs (height, weight, experience, waves you wanna surf) and then we might be able to give some advice... but if your switching to standup i would get something a little wider for stability and some length to it. but i got thrown on a short board when i started so who knows...
board Check out the specs on the ci neck beard ive got one 5'8'' and love it im around youre height and weight surfed 12' rhody and 2' hampton with the board set up exactly the same and it was perfect
talk to who ever is going to shape ur board....they could be a better way to get an idea....and be honest about skill level and what your looking for....little extra foam does not hurt..
6'0 x 12 x 19 x 14 5/8 x 2 1/2 will look something like this... http://greenlightsurfsupply.com/greenlight-rocketfish.aspx read the description... I think it's what you're after.
your right that does look exactally like what i am looking for. How much wider and thicker would you say that board is compared to your standard shortboard?
Hey BodyboardNJ, I may have the board you're looking for and would love to make you one. This one was a custom board for a guy in NY and has really enjoyed it. Every board I make is tailored for each person, but this may be a good starting point. See / Read more here: http://www.malwitzsurfboards.com/archives/portfolio/sea-monster-quad Thanks Rick
Typical performance shortboards in the 6' range are around 18 1/4 wide and 2 1/8 thick. But I'll tell you that rocker is key. PM me if you want more details.
