Anyone know anything about all the shark reports off the coast of S. FLA at this time? I read something on Foxnews that said a shrimp boat was attacked by dozens of Bull Sharks off the coast and it was eventually sunk. Also saw arial footage of hundreds of sharks in the water. They're putting up double red warning flags..... How long is this supposed to last and is it safe to paddle out?????
yeah there's sharks Been travelling to florida for 2 weeks every january for the past 3 years to get away from the 39deg water in jersey. I've been surfing in new jersey all year, every swell for 7 years and every summer 6 years before that and have never seen a shark. In the past 3 years in florida, which only totals 6 weeks, I've seen 5 sharks! well the first one i didnt see but the kid surfing next to me definately saw it-it was 6ft NE groundswell on the outside bar at jupiter he said it was at least 6fter, the next 2 were spinners at juno pier, the next one was at least a 7fter at indialantic-some guy was baitfishing and hooked it, the thing jumped into the air like 8 or 9 times before it got off, it was on the inside of the outer bar totally within the surf zone, the last one was in jupiter it was a small one that came right through the wave i was about to duck dive. Keep it mind january is the off season for sharks, the fall and spring bait runs are way worse. If you see schools of baitfish get out, dont surf alone, no dawn and dusk, murky water, inlets, no flashy jewlery, bright clothing, etc. Also watch out with windswells, they cant tell your finger from a mullet in the chop as well. A more likely threat are manowar.
i got friends that live in Indialantic/Melbourne which is about 5 or 10 minutes up from Sebastian. From New Smyrna down south to I'd say around Jenson or so is the shark capitol of the atlantic. I was down for the week visiting 2 weeks ago and saw a couple sharks. Dude is right though, Mano's are what you need to worry about. My friends lil bro got tag on his arm and chest. It F'd him up for the day. oh yea....and the damn sea lice
It happened off the coast of FT. Myers, FL and it wasn't dozens, just one bull shark.. Or so they say, no pics, some guys on a shrimp boat coming in at 3am, it's dark.. so who knows what really happen.. I was fishing/swimming in Melbourne Beach today and caught a glimpse of what my neighbor said was a 12+ foot tiger shark. I only caught a glimpse of a big black shape breach the surface, but it didn't come back and it didn't do it more than once like a manatee or a dolphin would. Good thing it was pretty flat today, or I would have been one brick****ting mofo.
I've seen a few sharks in cocoa beach, but they just mingled and went away Be sure not to get; tarpon, dolphins, manatee's, other fish, confused for sharks. It will make for an unnecessary panic. I think the main thing to concern yourself with would be; jellyfish, sting rays, sea lice, and eel's Yes, i've seen people get bitten by eel's it's really creepy
I haven't seen any fins in the water yet, but there's no doubt the Jellies and sea lice will def. kick your ass here in S.FL. Don't forget, we still hold the top spot for fatal attacks in the World, according to Shark Week. When we get some swell, look out for one another...
