Clearly was exagerating...... But definitely wayy more travelers than locals. I guess you guys need this website to keep everything intact. Not bashing just saying.......
10 minutes to blacks beach, 10 minutes to sunset cliffs, 5 minutes to windansea, bird rock, big rock, horseshoes and mission jetty.
forgot to mention, parents have a house about 15 minutes away from the ocean, been going down since i was a child, spend a good portion of time throughout the year down there...so i get some, but damn those good days like the 28th when I'm working and 1.5 hr. away suck donkey... I keep looking at the CA cams and wondering what it must be like to actually get swell...anybody else feel a hint of jealousy?
i was 5 min away from wrightsville beach, now im living in keystone, CO for the winter. I think san diego is about 1k miles away or 16 hrs. the pacific is closer than the atlantic and ive got a board and rubber with me just in case!!
2.5-3 hours from DC area to IRI or Assateque. which makes working around family commitments even harder. when it's warmer and there is more daylight I make it 1 or 2 times a month. This time of year though with short days and beach breaks which only seem to work around low tide before closing out, it's frustrating to see a good forcast with a low tide at like 3:30pm which only gives an hour or so of daylight. One of my funest days was early fally when I left work at 12:30 and arrived for a 3pm low tide and was out until 6:30 or so. The distance is killing me fortunately relocating is not inconceivable and we are looking/hoping to move to SOCAL at some point. California Dreaming.
used to be a 5 minute bike ride (Hermosa Beach) now an hour plus drive to the Gulf coast but it's better than being totally land locked.
It is tough being so far from the surf. I have 3.5 hours from Central PA during the year, but 2 blocks all summer so I can't complain. I often make that 3.5 hour drive in a day--leave around 4:30am, surf all day and get home for dinner with the family. It is always worth it!
I've been fortunate enough to have lived in areas that are 30 minutes or less from the surf. My current commute averages to be a little over 20 minutes. But I work about a 45 minute drive away, which is a bummer for the post-work sessions. Lots of admiration for the guys who make the 2+ hr drive. That's tough, almost like having a long distance relationship.
