Remember, Americans are the oversized, overweight, over use, over do it humans in the world. That tico was right..."because gringos can afford it" and are dumb enough to think no one will snatch something away from them. Don't leave anything in site and it won't be stolen. The average tico makes $300 a month...do you blame them. I'd like to see an American live off that.....welfare pays more. I had a friend with me in Jaco and he set his sandles and pack of cigs on a log on the beach while we surfed. I told him not to, but he did it anyway. As we were trading waves, we watched a tico sit on the log, smoke one of his cigs, then get up and take my buddies flipflops with him as he walked down the beach....I laughed my ass off cause there wasn't a dam thing we could do but watch. By the time we would've paddled in that tico would've been half way to San Jose...besides the waves were great that morning. I'm just sayin............ I love our country but sometimes I wonder how we became a superpower or how we still function in this country. The ocean brings it all back into prespective...everytime.

find someone to roll with you Gruvi and get a car. There are far too many places to go in Costa and not having a car to get places would be unfortunate.

OR do an all-incl surf camp deal if your going solo good way to roll.. surf tours and in ur case lessons!!

 

Bring disposable sandals but in most cases they are need to get back to room etc cause the roads are so damn hot so I stash mine and knock on wood havent had them ripped off yet! Been to CR and other CA countries over 10x's common sense and realize that if you bring it to the beach you probably wont be bringin it home but like said b4 we can afford it.. Give some **** away if you get the chance also!!

Gruvi, your probably better off not rushing it...plane tickets will be cheaper if booked several months ahead of time, and plan on renting a vehicle, preferably a 4X4...and learning a little spanish doesn't hurt. Costa Rica is an awesome place, and the Tico's and Tica's are some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. Like some others have said regarding petty theft, use common sense and you should be fine. Probably won't hurt getting some more water time up here b4 you go, too.
