I've been sponging for 14 years and just decided to pick up surfing. My first board is a channel Island biscuit 7 footer. It was time for a change. I prefer the tuflite biscuits. Anybody else just starting? Peace.
I used to surf when I was a kid, now at 35 I have the bug again. I got my board over the summer but I didnt get to get out as much as I wanted with work and my son playing football. So in essence I am still trying to get up again. I got a wetsuit yesterday so I really want to get out there and make it happen. If only I had keep surfing all those years.
i always reccommend a bigger board unless you are somewhat used to popping up from riding on a knee while sponging. The biscuit will be pretty good though since it's thick and wide. I always watch a lot of videos and try and mimic what I see while in the water too.
thats why I went with a bigger one, I have been prone all these years. Not once have I tried drop-knee. I have about the biggest biscuit they make. It's 3 3/8 thick. It should float my fat ass pretty good. I also got a goofboard to practice on, it has helped with my balance.
that should work pretty well. I think the people who say that started out on a 5'9 are full of it. I think it can be done, but it would take forever to learn on. It is just more easier progressing large to small. And with craigslist, you don't have to worry about dropping as much money on boards. People are willing to trade and sell for cheaper prices.
