Frustration....... In 2010 I graduated with a bachelors degree in management with a specialization in marketing. I also studied abroad at Bond Uni in Queensland Australia. To this day it is still hard to get a decent job. Right now I am currently working at a hotel only 4 days a week with minimum pay, and I've just about had it. Everyday Im applying to different places, but have not been successfull. I'm starting to think maybe I should pack up my things and move on, explore and meet new people. Me and my buddy are looking to maybe head out to the left coast and see whats out there. We both have about $5,000 each and are looking for an apartment, 1 bedroom, doesnt matter. Obviously I would prefer closest to the ocean. I was just wondering if anyone has any insight on the job market out there, maybe websites for places to stay for cheap, or even someone I can talk to, or someone looking for roomates. I have no problem picking up a waiting job in the time being, till I find a good job. Any insight I would greatly appreciate it! Cheers!
you said you been to Australia, you must have some connects over there... minimum wage there is $15.50 and hour! plus you got sick waves all year.
Nimby.... california is a bit overloaded with labor right now. (ok, really, we just don't need more people crowding the surf ). no matter where you go outside the US, make sure you know the rules, regulations and requirements for work and residency. especially in highly socialized economies, there is often a wait list to get on the jobs list. good luck
Finding a job anywhere is not easy in this current economy... just keep working somewhere... I have submitted resumes to various places and they called me back a half a year later! If your young and you have the chance with no family ect- GO FOR IT! It could be the only chance you get- out of all my friends that made the move to CA, HI or PR when I was in my 20's- they all found a way to make it! Start sending your resume to places where you want to move before you move- see if you get a response. Keep Praying!
A BS in business seems challenging, unless you have some great experience under your belt. Maybe you can find somewhere cool to live where you can wait tables or something and take MBA classes on the side... Just a thought. And, in the process, maybe you'll actually find an awesome job. Good luck!
Welcome to the working world. I say travel and enjoy being free from responsibility. Odds are you will find a great job when you are not even looking for it. You have many options right now and here are two, keep sending out resumes and take a job that will most likely entail one or more of the following, cold calling, a cubicle, co-workers talking about things you could care less about, a shirt and tie, two weeks vacation, and low pay or go out and find a lifestyle you love and let the work come to you. There are millions of interesting jobs out there that do not reside in a 10x10 cubicle or office building and honestly you can get into any of them if you start at the bottom. Just get out and meet people and experience life you are young and you will not regret it. Worst case you come home in two years broke but with a bunch of great experiences. starting your "Professional life" at 25-27 is not a problem. Do not stress it.
i'll concur with most of those who've replied... travel, but expand your boundaries... southern california isn't all it's cracked up to be. sure, it's sunny and 70F again today, and the waves are well overhead, but there are so many people here that it'll make you think twice about moving to the golden coast, whether it's the stinkeyes you get in the lineup from the locals or the countless bums on the beach and in the alleys. if you're unemployed it can be extremely difficult to find a job around here. chances are that there are hundreds maybe even thousands just like you with the same kind of resumé. do some research, figure it out, and if you find your way to SD somehow... send me a message, i'll paddle out with you

I would save a few more bucks. 5k can go quick easy. you have a security deposit, all your utilities, then your actual rent, not to mention gas and food, health insurance since you will be without it. You could all the sudden have car issues and need repairs. 5k just doesn't seem like enough. Before I got my job, I worked a third shift position making $12/hr and I applied every night all night. I sent out about 100+ apps and traveled about 5,000 miles in about 3 months before I finally snagged a position. To get a decent job now days, it takes dedication and committment. Plus if you want a solid job, they look at past work history and if you take a leap of faith and can't get anything and working as a bar back doesn't really make your resume shine. I would try to shoot for something near the states around you. Then if all else fails, and you really can't find ****, save up about 10k and then shoot for the stars and head over to ca.
Sf bay area has lowest unemployment in CA right now and one of the lowest in the USA too.......it would be a pretty easy move from so cal. Tech companies are booming here at the moment and the surf isn't to shabby either......hasn't been under head high in months at the more exposed spots........

Dude you have no wife or kids tying you down go to Australia their country is doing really well economically . I would stay as long as your work permit allows. While your there try and hook up with an Ausie woman and get married than your permitted to stay. This country is going to **** that country is way better. Not even a thought in my mind. I would pack up ASP and be out of here. FORGET CALIF YOU WILL STARVE it is so damn expensive to live especially San Francisco area

The poor economy and terrible job market is due to the current failure in DC ruining the USA. If you really want to use your degree and work, come November, vote for a proven leader who will undo all the failed policies that have been inacted during the past three yrs. In the meantime go surf as much as possible.
