So just was wondering, what is your favorite surf shop and why. What makes you like one over the other. Looking at nj/de/md area.
Chauncey's is the best place in the Ocean City, Md and Assateague area. They're upfront and honest and aren't just out to make a sale. They get repeat business that way and I always try to support them.
i work at downtown chaunceys and even before i started everyones so laid back, and they give you the best hook ups in town
Natural Art in Hatteras.Best location, best surf report, best shaper, best glasser, best ding repair, best boards, best board prices, best board selection, and best of all, none of the BS you get in some other shops. They do everything on premises. The shaper and glasser and ding repair guy are all right there to take care of anything you want.
oh,sorry, you said nj/de/md,my mistake.Beach House in Bay Head or Wavejammer in Lavallette. Both have the best service possible,Wavejammer has the best prices for quality products anywhere, and that means anywhere, and Beach House has the top-of-the-line quality, except they aren't into much high-performance shortboards, only by far the best longboard shop.
+1 on for Scott at wave jammer and Eric at beach house surfshops ........great guys behind the counter at both shops, Gordo at brave new world is a good dude too........worst experience/service etc ......hands down in 25 years of surfing is spellbinders in deal......bad attitudes and bad vibes
Here's a good read talking about how to run a successful surf shop, its an old thread from Swaylocks: http://www2.swaylocks.com/node/1015112 Also a good quote: Best one I've been to on the east coast is Fort George Island SS in North Florida
So well put. Love the coffee pot idea. We're the ones that buy the boards and suits and clothes for our kids. and give ourselves gifts of repacement equipment that we purchased in the dark ages but came back to the same shop cause they treat us well. Then we talk to our friends about it and they come.
brave is wal-mart.the enemy of every mom-and-pop surf shop in the area.they have everything, and they are hot stuff and they know it.bunch of jerks, too.
Right Coast in Seaside Park. the owner is a class act and really helpful. hes cool to everyone from the worst of the bennies to the regulars. If you really need something at that instant, your best bet is Brave however it dosnt have the most welcoming vibe.
You know, I am not sure. I guess I have poked my head in most of them in this area at least once or twice. I have always been amazed that from a business venture anyone would open a Surf Shop. Surfboards are very cheap if you consider the skilled labor & transportation cost. The competition is fierce & surfers are not exactly high rollers. God love the little mom & pop shops that keep us all in wax & flip flops.
My 2 cents Best deals on boards:Farias Biggest Selection:Brave Point Best Ocean view:Eastern lines Best Surf report:Wavejammer Friendliest shop:Beach house
Island Style in Sea Bright, NJ. Owner, Derf, is a good guy and has been around for probably 30 + years.
