    Hi Guys --

I am in a frenzy to find a great small wave board. Im talking 1 foot gutless junk. But I want it to be short, I'm sick of riding a 7 foot fish, I want something that is in the 5' range -- something interesting, fast, maneuverable, and fun. Im think rusty dwart, CI neck beard, lost motivator?

What do you guys think? I am open to all opinions and love suggestions an dpicutures of your boards

    THanks!

I think the Lost Plank looks like a great small wave shape.

Here is what you do. Take that money that you would spend on a factory board and put like 30-60 bucks in to the biggest most beat up but not too old longboard (gotta have good foam) you can find. then bring it to a reputable shaper (your from New England so there is a couple of great guys around) and you have him take that longboard and build you what ever the hell you want. whole thing should run you between 3-400. when it comes to short sticks for micro lines the weirder the better. call that $h1t the pumpkin seed or somthin and paint it orange. thats whats up these days.

Based upon this statement. I'm with everyone else...a Simmons...an oversized dwart/motivator may work, but the other boards need a bit of push to be worthwhile...Plank is a ...lost simmons.

can't agree - i have one and it doesn't really come into form until at least waist-chest type of surf. knee or smaller is just too small.

i think something stubby and thick would work nicely, like that lost plank: http://www.lostenterprises.com/surfboards/details/the-plank

Are you suggesting trying to pay a reputable shaper $300-$400 to strip the glass off an old longboard and shape and glass a little small wave board from the foam? Why would they do that when the local Walmart is paying $7 an hour for greeters?

Mitchell... once again, good advice... and an even better perspective on the state of the surfboard industry.

The Plank, a mini-Sim, or the Sweet Potato are all alternative small wave machines. LOTS of fun in knee high junk up to chest high or so... some even take them in bigger stuff.

If you go to a local shaper, tell him what you ride and where, and what conditions you need the board for. Let HIM pick the blank, because most likely a re-shape won't have the rockers or foils he needs to make what you want. Besides that, he might just turn down the job... I know I would. It's MORE work and takes MORE time to shape sh!t foam from a whacked blank... and the customer wants to pay LESS??!!... wtf!?

Check out the SPUD and the Groveler... and read the shaper's notes on each. They're what works good around here.

    check out this shaper: http://www.hightideslowtides.com/.
I currently ride a 5'5" by 19.5" by 2.66" Day Tripper model by them with the five fin option and it is the fastest most maneuverable board I have ever ridden in any conditions. It was made for up to head high but its held fine for me in double overhead surf to so its a perfect all around and small wave board.

I have a sweet potato and it's a great board for bad days and mushy days. When the waves get a bit more hollow it's a little more difficult to negotiate b/c of the extremely flat rocker. I would like to get a proctor board with epoxy construction and parabolic stringer but those run close to $900. no joke.
