08 Nissan Frontier Pickup- just throw all your gear in the box and go! Mileage is ok for a truck- 20mpg... manual trans... In the summer or whenever its warm, I just ride my bike to the beach... much easier...
03 Ford Escape, 6 cyl, fwd; Fits my 9.0 & 8.0 inside, gets about 25 & its paid for. I hate camping out (23 years in the Army will do that to ya), so, I book a BOQ for 25 a night or so within driving range of where I want to go. I expect gas prices to start having a major inflationary effect soon. Oil is up again today, it might hit 5 bucks a gal. Its what this administration wants- its their energy policy. I would love to have an alternative-where is it? A Ford Escape Hybrid is 10,000 dollars more- A Volt is 40 & it cant get me to the beach & back on 1 charge.
just got a very lightly used 2010 Civic. Garden State Parkway Grinder for commute...34 mpg highway....
2003 chevy silverado Z71 edition and its perfect for hauling boats or surfboards but get only 17mpg. but im perfectly fine paying for the gas since im able to drive on the beach and also be able to haul everything. but im thinking of upgrading to a diesel just to get somewhat better mpg.
haha true man true. It's great on the gas when you aren't laying on the tank with that tunnel vision... but that is the fun part Same with my GTI, 32mpg if an old lady drives, low 20's with me behind the wheel. I also have an 86 bronco that is closer to gallons / mile... when it runs...
05 chevy 2500 extended cab with a six inch lift and thirty fives. gas mileage? yeah not much but can load up five people and a full truckload of boards.
What about the Fit? It's got a ~100hp 1.5L but the gearing makes it feel faster than it is. 4 doors + hatchback, plus the seating configuration is configurable for hauling long things, tall things, people, etc.
I really like the Outback, seems like a good surf wagon. Better than an SUV on gas but still has plenty of room in the back for boards. Plus the AWD makes it pretty versatile. I'm working on selling my car and picking up an 05-07 Outback sometime soon. Speaking of selling my car, anyone interested in an 01 Acura CL?
77 ford maverick. Surprisingly reliable, terrible fuel economy, ugly brown color. But I do not care. I bike to the beach when I can, drive for longer trips with other people. I make them chip in for gas so most times I'm riding for free. (gas-wise).
'06 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. 3.25" suspension lift and 33's...still gets decent gas mileage, around 15-18mpg. Offroad Beast...'nuff said.
1996 dodge ram 1500 with a 360 v-8. five inch lift sittin on 35's. gas mileage.....whats that? thank god i live less then a mile from the surf in the summer time. I get raped at the gas pumps
1999 7.3 turbo diesel F250 ext cab short bed, hauls anything i want, including all my boards. for fun is my 2002 z06 corvette 30 MPG highway.. no joke, cammed, headers ext... 560 HP. im shaping a 4'10" mini simmions to fit in it.
I love the fit, my friend has one and I have driven it, I just wish it was a wee bit larger. Also couldn't care for the paddle shifters.
i have a 09 tacoma 4 door trd sport with the longbed. gets medicore gas mileage...17 gallon tank lasts me about 2 weeks on 89 gas.
I've got a 2007 Toyota Taocma TRD, V6 6-speed manual . It get around 15 city 19 highway. Amazing truck runs amazing and is a dream offroad, however I am going to college at UNCW (live in VB) and it gets terrible gas mileage at anything over 60 b/c it is geared so low, so I am looking at getting something more apt to cruising down I-95 at 80mph. I have been looking at Subaru wagons, lancer wagon, vw's but nothing has really got my eye. Any recommendations?
'99 4runner manual trans.. i used to avg 16mpg but I modified the intake and now i avg 18mpg and ive gotten as high as 22mpgs but that was on the highway with cruise control set at 65. the intake mod was real eazy and it cost me about $15. it works on tacomas too theres instructions on the yotatech forums
92 Toyota Pickup 4 cyl 5spd w/ a 4" lift on 33's and it gets 15mpg around town and 20 on the highway. Awesome surf rig except for the fact its only a single cab and can only fit 2 people.
2010 crew cab chevy silverado fuel management dropping it to a V4 definitely helps when I drive right
Dude....man hahah.. had a '70 which came stock with a 120 hp 6 banger which blew up on a road trip to arizona.. replaced the motor with a 300+ hp 302 v8. gas mileage? HAH. it was $1 a gallon back then. it finally died and i scrapped it. still, i well up each time i see a maverick still cruising the streets. now i have an 03 v6 camry xle that avgs about 20-23 with my two 9+ boards and a coffin on the roof. i drive like an idiot so that's doing ok by my book.
