Hey, I was wondering if anyone has a rocket or similar shape and what kind of fins work best? I was thinking of getting the k2.1.. at the moment I have the lost fins that come with board but I prefer to upgrade the fins on all my boards.. thanks

It depends on what you want to do ,your size, etc. For example there will be a fin for a surfer who likes to release the tail and there will also be a fin for someone who likes a whopping carve with no release.

if you're under 160lbs, the k2.1 or jw-1 will be great for that.

you're on the bubble. if you're younger & still growing, you'll likely out-grow the fins at some point (sooner, rather than later. medium size fins are only good up to 175lbs, according to fcs' website). try your stock g-mb's w/ a smaller trailer, like an m-3. the smaller center fin will loosen up the tail, & the larger fronts will provide drive & hold. the pc g-mb w/ a pc-3 center would be the "up-graded" equivalent. or the pc-7 w/ a pc-3 center would work too. unfortunately, those set ups would require you to buy 2 sets of fins instead of just one.

I weigh +- 180 and I still use FCS k2.1 and future WCT. They are generally my go to fins. Sometimes but rarely I'll put in EA's on my step up.

I started surfing the k2.1/wct's when i was 175+- and i love them and haven't felt a fin template that feels as good. They by far have the tightest turning radius of any fin, i think.

I beleive the pancho fins are similar to the k2.1's in the fact that they are an upright fin. They maybe good if you feel the k2.1's are not enough fin.

I guess i have scrawny legs that i can't turn big fins.

AM fins work great on those models. lots of drive, middle fin is slightly smaller so release of the top is easy. If not the JW is a good fin in any shape

HaoleNJ, are the Future WCT pretty close to the feel of the K2.1? I love the tight turning radius of the K2.1, the upright template combined with smaller trailer really feels good for me. I just got a board with Futures and wanted to try the WCT since I have heard that they are similar.

LostSurf64, I got a set of K2.1 a little less than a year ago and it felt like my board just came alive with them (it's a Lost Stealth which is similar to the Rocket). They are really fun on fast breaking waves when you don't have the time to draw out long carves, you can just make really quick adjustments in the pocket since they have that tight turning radius.

similar would be an understatement. they are identical templates, right down to the sweep of the center fin.

Like said above, they are 99.9% identical. Template is identical.

The only possible variance could be 1) the cant is built into the future fins so that may be different then your fcs, being that fcs systems have the cant in the fin plug. 2) the k2.1's have an intentionally stiff center fin, but the difference in flex pattern is negligible, especially if you get the WCT in solid glass. But all said we are getting into the niddy gritty and most people wouldnt notice the difference between the wct and k2.1

Sick man, thanks for the info I'm gonna have to pick up a set of WCTs now. Maybe I can find a used set in TechFlex somewhere and save some cash, those things are pricey!

We can talk all day , but the only way to really know is to try a template out...Your local shop should have a test drive center or fin tree... allows you to demo fin sets free. An online retailer has a "fin addict " program... like netflix for fins .

    best of luck ~
