It seems like every year or so there's always a surfing fad that defines the summer. This year it's the... Go Pro Camera! The water temp is getting more tolerable, and I'm seeing more and more people paddling around. I have also noticed more Go-Pros and Go-Pro mounts on noses than I've seen in the last couple of years. Last year I only saw 1 guy with one. Not ranting, trolling, making fun, or complaining, so relax. I think the cameras are a good investment, and can be used for other outdoor activities. I just noticed this trend along with the unfamiliar faces in the line-ups. I think the Hero HD is around $299, but I am also itching for a new board so this may have to wait, if I have some Tax Refund $ left, I may also bite the bullet.
Go Pros changed the game for shooting water footage. For people that want to catalog and edit/share their waves, its definitely cool.
summer 2012 fad = weird board art kids think its cool to be artsy and have ****ty self hair cuts, wear tight pants and strange shirts because it makes them look like dane reynolds or droid or the 500 other pros out there that have the same look
Idiotic board art will be it. Actually, not art, but stupid writing. Lots of kids have phrases written their boards that are some kind of inside joke or something. It's obnoxious. If you have nothing creative, leave it alone. I hate summer. Thanks McLovin, you've already got me dreading it.
Haha! What happened to classy resin tints and super clean pinlines? Now it's scribble all the stupid sh*t you have in your head with whatever writing utensil you can find... Less than 2 months til Memorial Day fellas!
sounds like someone's been drinking a lot of Hater-ade and sharing it with friends. Your hate's harshin' my stoke bro.
Ha! Writing random nothings on boards is by no means "new." I remember kids doing it in the 90's, like most other fads these days--they are just recycled from the past and represent a complete lack of originality and creativity.
Wierd board art has been a fad since the 80s, nothing new. And just because your like me and you suck at it, you shouldnt feel bad about painting boards. **** everyone else, Do what you want and have fun. Wanna mount 50 go pros to your markered up boards, go ahead, and while youre at it snake the kook that is hating.
I try to avoid the fads... that way I never have to look back at myself and feel stupid. Ask me how I know...
no, you forget that some fads last through the summer so therefore combine and snowball into madness. This year I expect to see tow-in SUP riders on giant BEATER boards, wearing $140 boardies, with gopro Hero 3 (that's right 3!)'s mounted all over the place. oh yeah, i would be shocked to not see one of those water jet powered adult mobility device things out at either first street or north end. I vote that we gang up on them and sink it. really though my girl did get me a gopro for xmas. I'm still pretty excited about it. I'll be using it if the waves get good, haters gonna hate. I have gotten some sweet footage snowboarding and once I put it on a great dane's collar and letting him fight/play with the neighbors st bernard. That was pretty cool but based on the Vick thing I won't be posting that anywhere...
BLOGS. There are already a few clowns in NJ trying to start some. Very boring, waste of time and no money involved. Whatyouth.com youngwisetails.com Marinelayerproductions.com out2brunch.com turkeymelt.com
the issue with go pros isn't that they are used, its when people insist on posting 'sick footy edits' of them flailing around.
hey just wanted to see if my avatar works. go pros are cool, i feel like they are completely under-utilized. now if they made a go pro remote control (to start stop recording) or made more creative mounts for them.. im not crazy about the wrist strap mount that ive seen wrong avatar picture!!
GoPros are sick and board art/wetsuit color add steeze to surfing, just like multicolored jackets/bindings would add steeze to snowboarding.
My fiance picked me up a GroPro a while back and I have yet to use it. I don't think i've had the patience for it, as soon as my feet hit the sand i'm headed straight for the water and I forget I even brought it. I'll get with the program one of these days though, great idea, just a bit of a hassle to mess with IMO.
surfing itself will be the summer fad of '12 based on the crowds i'm already seeing. lots of new faces and boards already and the water is still in the 40's up here. prepare for the swarm!
