As aways, the Liberals want to scream " the sky is falling" without any proof of distruction. I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with surfrider on this one. We need energy, and the fact is it can be gotten with little or no impact on the environment. If you're against anymore drilling, may I suggest you sell your car, quit using your a/c, stop consuming resources, and go back to living like a caveman. It will leave more energy for the rest of us.
Its attitudes like this which is why no matter what some people do. It will never help. If everyone did their part it would help. Instead people do all they can to use less, and people like this don't give a **** and only care about themselves.
Tbing: attitudes like his have no effect on anything...the whole "liberals cry the sky is falling" or "conservatives are in the pocket of the oil companies" are the kind of repeated slogans that people say when they don't feel like doing any research and forming their own opinion. treat it like the static it is and tune it out.
I have heard that some of the best fishing can be had from those platforms. Doesn' t sound like the fish hate them. A good point was made that without the gas from these facilities there will be more tankers on the sea coming from other places and more chance for environmental degradation due to spills and such. You sound emotional in your posts, (could be mis-reading) . To bring emotion into the discussion does nothing and only complicates things. It's like trying to have a rational discussion with your wife or girlfriend and then she starts crying, all productivity stops and you spend your time trying to stop the tears and not dealing with the actuall issue. We need energy, if you want to become a victim of a power dictatorship with your life governed by someone far away in another country with all the energy recources keep voting against sources of power. Don't characterize everyone with a different opinion a non environmentalist, that is just another way of stifling free speach by gagging us with the monster of political correctness.
It would interesting to see a breakdown of supporters of this and those who won't sign based on their age. It's easy to sign this when you don't pay the heating bill every month. when you do, you have to make some compromises.
I said nothing of the sort. I simply asked where your information that such a project would in fact create pollution and debris is coming from, other than one's own assumptions?
Blown away First I'm blown away any surfer would actually support anything like this off are coast.Second do you honesty think these companies are looking for the best interest of the people.Na highly doubt it.Its all about the dollar. How much money they can make.Take Exxon for example,They just reported record profits. But whats gas do just keeps on climbing.Explain that one.Its all about money.Give your dog a treat for the first time at the dinner table and every night he will come back for more, just a little bit hungrier This is just the beginning.
New jersey is already a complete **** hole. I don't think it is possible for it to get much worse. HAHA
You should learn what you're talking about before you say that. Most of the state is beautiful. But keep thinking that and stay away, less traffic for us.
Ha, Yeah the oil companies are horrible. They make money and are profitable for their investers. You know you or your parents could have bought in 20 years ago when gas prices were at rock bottom and made a fortune. You didn't and now they are evil for making money. Should they give it all back to us morons who were out buying giant SUVs when we didnt need them? The big difference between the 2 sides is one knows they are part of the problem and accepts responsibility and the others prefer to point fingers and placate themselves by signing on to this worthless crap believing they are doing their part. Then they sit on top of their soap box and can safely point fingers at the rest of us.
Your an aspiring environmentalist so it should be easy to see the potential for a liquified natural gas spill, leak, or any other type of contamination to cause a devastating environmental impact. It is only a hypothetical situation that one of these will happen but it is enough for many to have concern. If you have ever been to any port you would also notice that they are polluted. The company proposing the man made island is Exxon and i dont think I need to remind you of what occured in Alaska with one of their tanker ships. If you want any further small examples of possible situations that could occur look at the raw sewage leak that occured in Asbury that had beaches shut down. Keep in mind there will be underwater pipelines. Also a small vessel sank off Manasquan which sent an oil slick down the shore. These are small examples if any accident were to occur at the facility the affects would be on a far greater scale. I dont know if Zippy lives or surfs anywhere near Monmouth county but if he/ she doesn't then propose to put this man made island in your own backyard. We need alternative fuel i agree with you but unfortunately we the citizens and government messed up when we didnt invest our time and money into alternative technology when we faced the oil embargo and the crisis that followed. Now we are left with alternative choices that aren't efficient my friend is an engineer who works on alternative fuel sources and says that we're atleast 7 years off from any type of alternative fuel that is energy and cost efficient. Instead of dumping 1 billion dollars into this floating terminal maybe it should be spent somewhere that will actually help.
Yup, Grew up in Monmouth surfed Sandy Hook - Belmar for over 18 years. There is a reason it is being proposed up there because of access to ports and easy access to shipping lanes. If they were gonna do it 20 miles off of the coast where I live now I wouldnt appose it. Exxon didn't cause the spill a drunk captain did. And if not this as an energy source how about some super safe well built nuclear facilities? No good either huh? Hmmm.
i never said who caused the oil spill but the fact is those accidents occur and i also didnt ever say i supported nuclear facilities. Im not trying to sound like i want a Utopia but exploring more efficient and safer ways to make energy seems like a better direction than this facility. Your also strengthen my argument by pointing out that our nuclear facilities are not "super safe" even with the investment in the safety technology that goes into them. This platform will also not be a "super safe" facility.
Many european countries have been using nuclear power safely for quite some time. France leads them by being powered by 80 percent nuclear power.
Dude, stop that scare tactics and stick to facts ok? Oil and LNG are vast different from a spillage standpoint since LNG is stored in a crygenic state. "LNG must be maintained cold (at least below −117 °F or −83 °C) to remain a liquid, independent of pressure."
