HI, I just joined this WONDERFUL site as it post the tide schedule data for CAPE SAN BLAS, FLORIDA. I have been searching the web for this data for a long time. Can anyone confirm that the tide schedule data posted is for the Gulf (west) side of the Cape vs the Bay (east) side of the Cape? I hope the answer is YES. Prior to this, I could only find tide data for the city of Port St Joe (located in the St Joe Bay) and Alligator Pass (located east at St George Island). These are the 2 closest tide reported stations to the Cape. I wonder if the Cape San Blas data posted is extrpulated from Port St Joe OR are actual measurements made AT THE CAPE? The tides in this area are very complicated, as they are a combination of diurnal and semi-diurnal. Some days have one HI and LO and others have 2 HIs and LOs. Currently the tide location is to the west of the cape. In fact we are pulling the same tides as for Panama City area, which is: Channel entrance, St. Andrew Bay, Florida 30.1167° N, 85.7333° W
That's a long ways from cape San blas. My wife used to live there, she hated it. She didn't like atlanta either, too big, too many people, and more importantly, too far from the ocean.
HA HA! No waves here, but we have 3 kayaks and a surfboard we use at the Cape on our annual vacation. Thanks for the humor!
THANKS FOR THE RAPID REPLY Swellinfo! I am still a little confused. I have checked the tide schedule on some other sites for the channel entrance, St Andrew Bay for today. They do not match what your great site shows for Cape San Blas, making me think the data used for the Cape is not being pulled from there??? Also, your website shows 2 different locations for Cape San Blas - 1) one the west side at mid point facing west and 2) one on the south side facing south. These 2 different sites display slightly different tide times, as one may expect, and appear to be accurate. All of the above makes me believe your tide schedule for the Cape is some sort of extrapulation for those 2 different locations. I am aware the closest "true" NOAH tide reporting stations are at Port St Joe in the St Joe Bay, and the West Pass at St George Island. I can tell you from my many vacations at the CApe, the tides in these 2 areas are no where near the same as the Gulf side of the Cape. Thanks again for your help and please advise if you do find the answer to how the exact tide time data for the 2 Cape locations is compliled! GREAT WEBSITE!
You are correct! I was born and raised here in Marietta Georgia, but I know where to go to get away for vacation! Cape San Blas is probably not the best for surfing, but it is GREAT for fishing and kayaking and just getting away from it all. I love the fact that it is basically a 16 mile long dead end street into the Gulf! This keeps site seeing traffic to bare minimum. No Spring Break fiascos here. The only folks here are the ones fishing, yaking, camping or enjoying the nature of the beach. (Shhhh.....we need to keep this secret hideaway to ourselves!).
