I happen to consider myself a heavy "tobacco" smoker. ( i dont incriminate myself online). But i do not enjoy being high in good surf. If its waist high and fun sure ill get stoned or even drunk and have a good time but once the waves get good i think it seriously effects my surfing and energy in a bad way. I was in Hawaii and got really baked and went and surfed my first reef break. First set came i didnt duck dive deep enoough and then i sat on the inside reef taking 6 waves to the head. I was scared and my board and body were scraping the reef. not a good time. paddled back in . waited till i was sober and continue.
I find myself thinking about sharks alot more when i surf stoned. Especially if I'm by myself...but happy 420!

Pulled a guy out of the water that had smoked a joint & had a beer(s) with lunch. He drowned & to make it even better he was a brand new father. If you are curious, it was a 3ft day. You are taking a chance when you mix the two. It makes you lazy, stupid & then there is that legal issue.

Pointless. Is surfing not great enough that you feel you need to get high. Get beyond the days of "Have you ever done this stoned? its so much better" you know what it rarely is. If you need to get high to enjoy something its probably not that enjoyable. Have a great session in the water and then kick back on your porch and do what ever it is you do to relax
OMG if you can't handle average East Coast conditions after a few bong loads and a six pack then you should go to one of those surf school thingys. Look at those Santa Cruz guys of yesteryear. They went out at Mav's on LSD-25, a case of budweiser and were methsters. Hey, how come people can achieve things on drugs - like Flea, Led Zeppelin and Charlie Sheen, but I just sat around doing nothing. Anyways I haven't smoked cannabis sativa for two years. I quit all the bad stuff and figured I should get myself adjusted before returning to mother nature. Jeez, everyone I copped from is dead, deported or are annoying youngins who speak and act North Philly. I need new "friendships." You guys who think weed is bad and have never done drugs - let me tell you, as someone who has done everything, weed is a non-toxic, benign substance. You can't OD from it, it has no harmful side-effects, and it is NOT a gateway drug. If anything is a gateway drug it's alcohol. But if someone wants to use mind-altering substances, why would they just stop at one, with all the options. This gateway thing is a joke. Weed is safer than aspirin and less addictive than coffee. The worst thing that can happen from weed is that you live in your parents basement, eat junkfood, and play video games. By the way, alcohol is the worst drug out there. It takes a while to get physically addicted and to start wasting away your body, but once it does....BOOM. Who are the most annoying people - DRUNKS. What drug makes you lose your inhibitions and do anything - Booze. Fights, domestic violence, car crashes, saying things you regret, acting obnoxious, beligerent, arrogant....I could go on........
Dudes, I'm sorry to go on rambling but: Alcohol and cigarettes kill WAY more people than all illegal drugs combined. Yes, hard drugs are bad.....well there are people who can use powder cocaine recreationally.......but there's not many casual heroin or ready rock users out there. Marijuana is 100% natural. Every other popular drug is some pharamecuetical concoction or they take natural ingredients just as a base to further chemically process it. Not one case of lung cancer can be attributed to smoking weed, and that is basically the only risk involved. Well, excpet for the legal system. Marijuana being illegal, while alcohol flows like the River Jordan, and doctors prescribe big-business pills at will is a sad testament to how stupid society is..... and to how gullable the populace is. You don't trust the government on every other issue, but you will believe all their lies pertaining to drugs ??? No one breaks in to houses to support a weed addcition. No one hangs out in front of stores begging change to get money to cop a dime of weed. No one leaves their comfortable, suburban household and lives on the ghetto streets because of marijuana. No one sells their body to get "well" with a hit of herb. I did everything. The funny thing about it all is that the hard stuff makes you feel real good in the beginning, but then it just takes over. And opiates, as heavy as they are, will stop working for you at some point. I did it all and came out to find that if you are looking for satisfaction and euphoria it was there, all along, with weed. I went full circle just to realize that the only safe, non-harmful, non- betraying thing out there was marijuana. Get involved - JOIN NORML....VOTE..........End this insanity. And while marijuana should be legalized, the other stuff needs to be decriminalized. Putting people behind bars does ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD. No government is going to abolish drug use........STOP LETTING THEM PROFIT from the Drug War. Hey, where are those less-government conservatives ????? End background checks for employment. End urine analysis. So hypocritical that a certain party cries "LESS GOVERNMENT" but supports people urinating in a cup so people can check what you've been up to. PHONIES !!!!!! well saying your "stoned" or "high" is not incriminating. i could be stoned off life or high on happiness. and im just expressing that I do not like to surf high. I did not say it was a bad idea. "learn our lessons one day"? really its just a plant and I now people that love to get blazed and then surf on huge days. I like to be focused and amped not relaxed and chillin when the waves are good. And yes alcohol and cigarettes even coffee are MORE dangerous that herb.
Oh I do agree with the thing about swell size....... Unless you are Flea or equivalent to..........when it's macking(relative east coast standards in place) yeah.......you may want to take those swells on straight. Especially getting more than just a few puffs stoned.......that's for small BS days. And yes......others have hit it on the head........going out stoned will make those crappy days seem more enjoyable. The dude who said something about ****ty days, stoned, make it PIPE or something is correct. But then again, life is all about what you are percieving it to be.....and marijauna helps to make one's perceptions POSITIVE......And why is that a bad thing?

1st time i did it with some friends we went out longboarding and felt like i was in endless summer hahahaha. but yea it really does make the small days funner and big days more mesmerizing
regarding bill's rant. Read the first post then stopped at "who are the most annoying people? DRUNKS." No, they're not. Stoners are more annoying, they talk about it all the time and get in your face if you dont do it, the whole time proclaiming that they have a "to each their own" philosophy. Yes, I agree that Marijuana should be legalized, but seriously, writing three pages about it on a surfing forum is just obnoxious.
