Just saw this online, http://www.surfsetfitness.com/ I was wondering if anyone has tried it or heard about it ... looks strange to me but who knows ...
last week I saw "dog yoga" on the news... basically doing yoga with your dog. Now this? the excersize industry in nyc is absolutely idiotic.
Definitely agree that there is something strange about it. Not sure about the machine itself, it looks like it could be useful for keeping in surf shape while out of the water. But the whole way it's being marketed...they're not aiming at the average surfer. The aiming at the trendy fitness junkies who are looking for the next fitness "thing." Join a class in NYC (Chelsea neighborhood no less) or the Revel Casino in AC??? Or open your own Surfset studio?? Hmmm..... Get a balance ball and a yoga mat and you can reproduce much of what they're doing. Think a VASA Swim trainer would be a safer bet. It's a truly proven device that's been around for almost 20 years. http://www.vasatrainer.com/
For surfing, nothing replaces swimming, ply excercises, kettlebell, and indoboard. That board just looks stupid.
It looks pretty kooky, and screw the paddle simulating part, if i want that, ill just go surf- but as kooky as it is, the stability exercises look like they would be pretty beneficial for surfers. any kind of exercises on an unstable surface work wonders for neurological improvements. i wouldn't want to take the class though, the instructor is probably a complete tool lol
i was just thinking the same thing lol.iv always learned the best way to train is open ocean swimming.dont worry about balancing on a board,u need to learn the tides, currents, how wind affects.etc..balancing on a motorized surfboard in a living room isnt going to make u a better surfer.surfing is a hard thing ,and people think they can master it in a day, when it takes a long time to master the craft
There are numerous ways to train our bodies to be in better shape for surfing. Open ocean swimming, indo boards, vasa trainers, etc... I personally have a total gym that I use to simulate paddling. Yes, the Chuck Norris total gym....am I a kook for using it...now way. the kooks are the people that shoot anything and everything down because they think they are 'too cool' to train their bodies to be stronger. Don't worry about balancing on a board? really? Training the muscles that you use during surfing without a doubt is great and does work! It does help with your surfing stamina, and it does help your surfing-you are conditioning your body to perform better. It's not about mastering surfing in a day and I don't think they claimed that anywhere. It's about taking care of yourself to increase your fitness level and to strengthen your surfing muscles out of the water. Why is everyone so 'cool' behind their computer screens and just hate on everyone, and anything? Bottom line...If you are not doing anything outside the water to condition your body for surfing, you could be surfing a lot better, no matter how much you rip.... Happy wave riding...
First off let me just say I almost cried from laughing so hard when I watched the sup training video. Secondly this machine is clearly for people who don't surf as it says on the website "workout like a surfer." You know why it says that? Because real surfers surf to stay in shape. Just look at all the old school guys back in the day that were ripped. You know what they did for crossing training? They surfed.
ya lucky for me i live in Nica half of the year. but if i dont work out when i am at home, i notice it big time when i get back down
Want A Be Everyone wants to be a surfer, but they just, do not want to get wet. Surfer body, hell I am 6ft and 225lbs, 54 years old and just got back from hitting Ollies Point. Want to feel the burn, surf the NE, in the winter, fullsuit with boots and gloves.
