Branded Skate Shop just purchased the Long Branch location of Barewires. The manager hung around there and is helping Branded work out the kinks in supplying surfboards because originally they were planning on not carrying any. The new location of Barewires is in Spring Lake, on Main street.

Does that mean its just for that age group or is that just a specific division?

My daughters (10 and 13) are relatively new to the sport, but would love to surf a contest. I told them they would probably get crushed, but they are fine with it. Would this be a good contest to get their feet wet, or is it going to be ultra-competitve? I was hoping as a charity event, it may have a more relaxed vibe.

dude make a mens division 18+. Also, consider a "swell window". Odds are that it will be flat on the 2nd.

We have 2 dates June 2nd and if flat June 16th
Both dates work great with the tides.

If its flat both Dates We will figure out a 3rd dated to be announced or we can just have a huge raffle with all the prizes and surfboards donated.

But dont worry the contest will run and it will be a great day for the kids

to answer some questions...unfortunately the town would not allow a swell "window" just a day for the event and one day for a "no wave" date. after talking to others that put on small, local contests that seems to be the norm. this is our first go round with a contest, and we wanted to focus on the kids. we are trying to find fun, positive activities for the kids in the our local communities. the ages max out at high school seniors(17/18) and younger. girls are invited to surf in their respective age group, and if we get enough girls we will make a division with just them on that day. for older people we do have an open division, it has a higher entry fee, but you can win $$ in that division. if the contest goes over well we hope to expand it.

don't underestimate early June - obviously its not tropical storm or Noreaster potential, but the fact is during that timeframe we get a lot of fronts that move through that can create plenty of waist-chest+ short window swell events, add to that no sea breeze, and no filthy guido bennies around yet...yep June is def. under-rated
