Any thoughts compared to P90X for surfing related workouts? seems this is more focused on Core and endurance, although P90X covers both adequately

    Here's a Link

I love it. Excellent program, and relates well to surfing, as much of the strengthening is done in anaerobic states due to the high level of cardio. On my third time through, although i'm down to only 3-4 times a week as opposed to the initial 6 days now.

I have not had drastic body charge results, more just "tightening" up (not much on the diet part and already fit), but it has made an incredibly noticeable difference in my endurance / cardio.

Related to P90x, it has less strength training but waaaaaay harder and more cardio. Also shorter workouts and no equipment involved. You will still get intense strength training from the hundreds of pushup variations you do during the routines, and all the jumping / lunges / etc.

lots of plyometrics and cardio. well thats pretty much all it is. i do it here and there as a workout.... its hard as hell. lots of jumping movements, down to the ground and back up again. think of plyometrics from P90X on steroids. definitely keeps you quick on your feet, quick from the ground up and burns a ton of cals. really depends what your goals are for how you want to run the program whether you do the full program or use it here and there as a cardio/surf training workout.

Sounds great.. Right now I can surf for 4-5 hours, but after the first hour my performance is reduced by 70%. Looking to surf 4 hours at as close to peak performance as possible. Plus I do lots of Kitesurfing which requires endurance and core strength. Was going to re-join a Yoga class to see if that helps but Its too boring. Are they recommending 60 minutes/ day 6 days / week for 2 months?

Great program if you want to get into shape for the short term, but probably too intense too maintain as a regular workout routine in the long term. I've done the P90 and this one and both have their benefits, this is more cardio, and P90 is more resistance. I thought the insanity was pretty tough on the knees but that's just me. After doing them both on and off for a few years I've moved on to Spartacus type workouts that deliver similar results, high cardio and is less rough on joints IMO...

Also, I'd do another round of P90 before I did another round of insanity

Like others have said its intense. Definitely a great cardio workout, I noticed some improvement in my endurance but I also had some knee issues. We did the whole circuit once and then you're supposed to start it over which we have yet to do. Probably get back at it this summer, it will get you into shape for sure though.

While we're on this topic, I just gotta share this. I've been doing these types of workouts p90, Spartacus etc for a few years now. Most always had me winded and provided a great workout, of course. Then this past winter I started swimming on a regular basis. When I went back to Spartacus, I COULD NOT BELIEVE how easy it was in terms of cardio. I felt like I had to do it twice just to get a decent cardio workout after swimming all winter.

Anyway, just an observation. I always heard about swimming being the best workout, but I was blown away.

I have to agree. I played football, basketball and baseball growing up in addition to surfing. I lift, run and play basketball as an sdult, but swimming is a totally different and more intense workout. My wife was a competitive swimmer and took me to the pool to teach me a mile-long workout shortly after giving birth to our first child. I thought I was going to puke in the pool and she was fine. Swimming is one of the best workouts for surfing.

Its definitely a kick-your-butt workout, that's probably why most people shy away from it as their standard regimen. I did it once through and now use it a couple times a week to supplement the other workouts I do. Someone stated above that it’s a 30 day cycle just done twice over. But the second month is different than the first, and definitely takes it up a notch...or three. It can be hard on the joints, as stated above, but you just have to be smart, not try to keep up with the speed of the people on the video, and KEEP YOUR FORM. Shaun T is a great motivator, but often lets their form go in exchange for speed, which I wouldn't recommend.
Overall it will get you in shape quick and I think it translates well for surfing because of all the core, plank, and shoulder work. I love it, I first started it in Jan 2010 and can't get away from it because its still a challenge even now.

Just started the program last night. Very intense and all I did was the Fit Test. Surfed a DP session for over 2 hours, and need to do the next workout tonight but I cant move... will it make the program much less effective if I skip the days I surf?

I don't think you really count the fit test as a workout. Just start the first workout on another day. Also skip a day when we get surf like today. No sense overdoing it especially in the first week.
