So ive been looking out for a decent used board this week to pick up for around $200. What do you guys think of this board? Its a Sharp Eye Disco, 5'9x19.5x2.7 thuster with future boxes... I have been looking for a decent small wave performance baord... My normal short boards these days are running about 6'0-6'2 depending on the surf and then i have been downgrading to my 5'7 quad fish on the smaller days... I want an in between for that. This guy lives in my neighborhood.

Anyone that has ridden one of these could give me an opinion? Or from dumpster diver riders... about how short should I go? I am 5'9, usually riding in the 6'0-6'0 potato chip shortboard....

Here is a link to the board with a pic etc.

Marcio makes a great board, I used to ride his GL models for years and the Disco seems like he squashed it down a little. The guys I've talked to dig 'em & surf them well: high performance surfing in small weak waves. I say go for it- you could always get your $200 back out of it.

What's been up Zack. I just picked up a used freddy rubble CI, it's essentially the same thing, pushed down 2-4 inches and out 1/2 to 3/4 inch. I'm in love with it. It would go perfect for a lot of the spots around you. Paddles as well as my fat stumpy fishy boards, works itself easily down the line with minimal effort, yet still surfs like a shortboard. I doubt i'll ever ride a normal 18 1/4 again haha!

I'm basing this on another board, but it appears to be very similar to that shape.

Board purchased. Quiver back to good. Any thoughts on which future fins matchup best for high performance? Have a set of JC1 460 future thrusters. these are pretty standard. I pulled them off my 6'0 plus one thinking its a good match. I'm traditionally am fcs guy, so I don't know all the future names etc. any thoughts on that?

    Pic 1 is the fins

Pic 2 is the board with the quiver

Everything is great brother. Crazy with work, wife and new daughter. Adjusting well. Making sure to paddle out 3 to 4 times per week whenever I get a green light. So far, got a nice balance going. I should have more time on here soon enough. Still keeping the stoke alive thought. We had a real warm and fun winter, hoping for a good summer. My dad is moving into his new hose in Bethany this June. I plan on visiting with the fam in a few months and check out some things for my wife and I. stoked for my dad. Finally gets to kick it on the shore were he belongs. No more dc grind.

    Talk to u guys soon

Your 5'9 and want a 5'9x19.5x2.7 ? if you weight more than 180-200 I would say yes. Thats a lot of board there. Im 5'9 131 pounds and I get my discos made in 5'6 x 18 7/8 x 2.25 or 5'6" x 19 x 2 1/8. My friend who is 200 pounds uses a 5'7x19.5x2.4. He tends to make the rails boxy too unless you tell him to shave it down thin. The only thing i can say is that board will float you really well. There is a lot of foam hidden under the chest. I get about 4-5 discos a year from Marcio.

Well, i bought it an took it out yesterday and today. It is insane! Surf was actually good, steep, swingy and slightly overhead at the beach break. By the third wave i got it dialed. Maybe it's too soon, but I can't remember a better board that I have ever ridden. The thing cuts on a dime. The speed backside was insane. You could completely swig in the pocket and power thru turns. I went to ob surf and skate today to get a2 475 futures cause on the bigger drops the thing was a but skatey and the guy was telling me the 475 s were a subtle difference but are a fin up from the jc1s I was ruining. Amazing performance board. Stoked out of my mind right now

putting the smaller fins on it. Surf was smaller yesterday and the 475 were really dragging through the mushy sections where the smaller 460s released easy and allowed the board to swing through turns much easier... Im thinking the bigger fins on cleaner bigger days maybe, but for the average surf, for which the board is designed, i feel like the smaller fins did actually perform better... Still curious about what other guys are riding (fins wise) on their disco or dumpster divers...

im 5'9 160... but this board fits me pretty well. I have a 5'7 fish. I didnt want something too small, cause i have tons of potato chips. I wanted something with some meat that can handle some decent surf... When it was HH+, the 5'9 was perfect... its not too sluggish even on the smaller days, so i think it fits perfectly for what I was looking for. I was even looking up to a 5'11 if it was the right shape... but the 5'9 disco fits me like a glove so far
