Been there, done that, bro. Not sure how old you are, but right when I was around 29 or 30 hangovers suddenly got considerably worse and I decided the toll drinking took on my limited amount of weekend free time to surf/fish/work out was just not worth it. I still have a beer or glass of wine most nights now, but probably haven't had more than 3-4 drinks in a single setting in a decade now and don't miss it one bit. Drinking all night in a bar got old for me after 10-15 years of doing it all the time. Surfing never gets old. And lemme tell ya, those waves on Saturday were better than the best night of drinking one could EVER have.

If I complete all of my drinking and boinking by 2am, I am still good to go for a 5am wakeup. Of course an after lunch nap will be required.

nope. i've puked in the line up (that really keeps the crowds away), but never NOT paddled out. probably b/c when i was in high school i got into a routine of getting up & doing something physical after a night of drinking, either a run, a swim, surf...just something to get the blood moving & pulse rate up. it seems hold off & minimizes the inevitable hangover, making recovery a little less painful.

yea you guys have no idea how pissed off i am looking at the surf but rocking shades and not being able to move. the worst part is that i knew the waves were unreal and i saw people ripping it, but i just couldnt get the energy to get my board and paddle out. my mom even called me out for not going. just ruined my week looking back knowing that was an unreal session for june

I try to drink some water or powerade before I pass out after drinking alot. Also making a redeye really helps me out in the morning. I use to love having a beer or two after work to help relax, but nowdays i get really bad headaches unless I keep drinking on and on, so now when I do drink I tend to drink alot to avoid this :-(

I went from 20 beers on a friday or saturday night rager into my early 30s.... now I can't remember the last time I have had more then 1 beer at any one time in the last 8 years.... hangovers just arent worth it and the fun just isnt there.
the fun is being out in the ocean.

Jesus H Christmas Christ what an embarrassment you are.

I can honestly say that I have gotten annihilated on many occasions as a teenager/young man/present-self and ALWAYS managed to surf the next day, if it was good.

Take-up golf. You can drink while you play that game and it's not as taxing on your frail little body that can't process alcohol.

Sorry if my above rant came across abrasive, but maybe this will inspire you to surf next time.

Every time there's a called swell, and you're out late... remember what a butthead you felt like for missing Saturday every time you reach for another beer.

I can honestly say I never missed a swell due to being hung over, but I have dug a hole in the sand to puke in on more than one occasion.

    Who Gets hangovers??

Just drink lots of water before and while your drinking and you'll be fine regardless of the qtty of alcohol.. although if your drinking really cheap stuff it can get to you...

I can honestly say, I have never been too hungover to surf. No matter how hammered/messed up I was and how I late I stayed up, I went out. If you live on the East Coast, you can't pick and choose your days. Even if you feel like complete sh&! you have to make the effort to go out; I always felt better (at least for a little bit) while surfing. I turned 30 this year and like the other guys said, I don't drink a lot or at all when I know I'm gonna get up and surf the next morning; it's just not worth it to feel like garbage in the lineup. It sucks you missed the surf, but thanks for the sacrifice and I wouldn't expect too much sympathy on the forum.

    Dude,
You gotta find a way to get it done. Missing anything cool due to hangover is unacceptable. Missing good surf for a hangover is gd blasphemous. Follow the advice of all the others or simply just punch yourself in the face. Piss poor effort man. Piss poor.
