do someting useful & make some money

SandRidge Energy Inc.'s (SD, Trade ) shares gained 15% after the oil and natural-gas exploration company late Thursday hiked its full-year production outlook and said it would sell property in New Mexico for $200 million.

I'm surprised now to see this thread still going.. No one should argue with the fact that everyone should worry less what everyone else is riding/doing, I just thought it was funny that something like that was being sold at Costco (I certainly wasn't implying that if you ride a foam board, you're a piece of sh*t...).

come to think of it, there's a guy who enters the lineup once every year for the past 2 OR 3 summers who must be riding one of these things. Its a pink foam longboard about 3-4 inches thick in the middle. He paddles out on his knees and stays waaay outside and catches everything. He doesn't exactly rip but he knows what he is doing. After I get over the, 'look at this guy' attitude, by the end of his 20th ride I'm saying to myself, "goddamn!!!" He doesn't get in anyones way and doesnt wave hog, but its so interesting to watch a guy have so much stoke on a 9 foot sponge.

pray costco doesn't start selling SUPs for 99$....

Most people are completely oblivious to the fact so obvious to Surfers of a higher level of surfing spirituality. The board does not make the Surfer, the combination of Soul and Stoke interacting harmoniously with the Wave is what makes the Surfer.

Oh please, we were all beginners once. I have a Costco surfboard in my garage, it is GREAT for learning. Before you are accustomed to the ocean it's pretty easy to get knocked around, I'm sure you remember what that felt like. Getting thwacked with a foam board is a lot less painful than taking fiberglass to the face. Get off of your god damned high horse and let everyone enjoy the sport. Obesity is a problem so maybe if you prissy little "locals and pros only" clique-heads would be more welcoming to newcomers, than those little kids and other newcomers wouldn't get discouraged and they would get some exercise! The ocean wasn't created for you to rule it! Share the waves! Surfing is an amazing sport and if you truly love it you should want to share it with the world.

I agreed with you up to the last part. Surfing is not a sport it way of life. Its a culture that has its own life style. Most of the people who think surfing is a sport are the ones who don't take the time to learn the rules of the line up or how the oceans work. Plus buying a board from Costco takes money out if the local economy. You can get a foam board and good used beginner boards from your local surf shop.

Pretty sure there is a youtube vid of Jamie OBrien ripping at pipe on a costco foamie. I don't think anyone could watch that and call him a kook, or that anyone tried to beat him up for paddling out to the lineup on one. I personally believe in buying from a local surf shop, and I get the sentiment that cheap widely distributed boards encourage people who shouldn't be surfing to get out there. Still I think that if you can shred you can shred, and having a junk board doesn't automatically make you wack

Uhh, so you're kicking people out for riding longboards? Go **** yourselves.

Also, localism sucks nuts man. Why the **** would you want to surf a spot like that. If you support a system where people threaten violence on others for attempting a recreational activity in the ocean, you're ****ed in the head. You don't own the ocean.

Everyone has access to the ocean, and surfers wouldn't have it any other way. If you don't want developers telling you that you can't surf your favorite wave anymore because you're carrying a surfboard, then don't facilitate others being told they can't surf their favorite wave because they're carrying a longboard surfboard.

Beach and wave access is a right and that might have unfortunate consequences, but you deal with that because you enjoy the benefits of free and open wave access.

Also, don't think for a second that if your beach becomes a haven for surf violence and the city/town starts to realize the problem (they will) that it's not going to make them more likely to sell it off to developers or to restrict beach access to certain times of day or, at the very least, to increase police presence in the area. You clearly don't want any of that, so preserve your break by letting people surf. If they're being douchebags and snaking, dropping in, or whatever, feel free to TALK to them. But you have to take the good with the bad.

Also, what the **** is with all of the homophobia on this god-damned site. What ****ing difference is it to you what I do in my bedroom? Being bisexual doesn't make me surf any worse, and it certainly doesn't make me a bad person.

Why does it threaten any of you so much? I mean I thought you were all super-secure, ultra-macho types . . .

What are you guys worried about. Its not like these people on foam boards are gonna learn surfing in a weekend or a summer for that matter. I recommend them for most beginners. My daughter is prob gonna have one. I don't care what you ride as long as you can surf. I paddle circles around anyone on these tings anyway. Most of them buy the thing for the novelty of it, until they realize how hard it is to learn.

So many kooks on these things in san diego. My buddies buddy picks up about 10 of them a week at $100, turns around and sells them on craigslist for $150.

costco does sell sups and they've been selling hardboards, softtops, sponges, sups and wetsuits at appropriate stores (like kona HI) for years.
