To the original poster... On quick moving systems off the east coast, the forecast is totally dependent upon the weather models, which are updated 4 times per day. When there are changes in how the models reflect systems moving across the country and off the coast, then these are reflected in the surf forecast. There is no trickery going on here... Sooner or later, we will have a full tutorial section that explains the nuances you see in the forecasts. Hope that helps you understand how the forecasts can go up and down during the forecast updates.
The waves suck on the east coast. Pick up a new hobby or go on a surf trip. Otherwise stop complaining, its not the forecasters fault that you live in a place with waves 5 times a year. Move to California and surf everyday or be quiet
such anger issues... do you guys talk to people like that in person? i must be a kook, b/c i made a post that nobody likes. oh wait, no, its because i accused swellinfo of being motivated by advertising dollars. why don't ya'll go surf, instead of just talking about it. its firing out there and crowded. that will get your agro up.
Look, the guy was a moron for starting this thread in the first place, but saying there are NO waves on the E. Coast is total BS. No it's not quite West Coast or Hawaii, but I score waaaaaaaaaay more than 5 times per year, as i'm sure most of the ppl on here do. The E. Coast actually has GREAT waves, if you know when to go and actually surf the E. Coast regularly, you would know this. Sure, it goes flat every now and then, but last I checked, so does Pipe, Rincon, etc., that is all...
You dumb ass moron the reason the site is free is because there are ads. I think eveyone's issue with you is that your first post is *****ing at the operators of this site and accusing them of being motivated by money when they are just trying to give a forecast. If you want ad free forecats go pay for Surf Line otherwise shut up you douche.
HAHAHA!! Swellinfo, Even if it's to continuously to tell me that there is no swell coming 4 times a day, I appreciate very much you updating the forecast as frequently as you do for us. Also, mp1 - is your real name Gruvy???????
you guys are all correct. i'm a douche, a kook, a boogie boarder, from PA, incapable of looking at other sites, need to ride my bike, need to talk to my mommy, blah, blah, blah. the fact is that i questioned the accuracy of this forecasters ability as well as, his motivation for changing wind direction, swell height, predicting a week out, all the rest. when in the end, all he does is give his opinion. he has no idea where i surf nor do ya'll. All i see from you dudes is a bunch of useless insults made comfortably from your office cubicle or your gay phones. Like i stated before, your silly, angered up nonsense, only makes you guys sound ridiculous, just like you look when you try to call out someone in the water. you probably call eachother "Watermen" too. go ride your sups.
Why is it that my local surf shops report for the week is always more reliable then swellinfo? Hmmm..... I'm not here to complain wine and be an A hole... I'm just stating the fact that my local surf shop can predict more accurate reports than swellinfo for the same exact spot....
You do realize that this was a troll post...How can this possiblity elicit 4 pages of responses? Especially on a day with swell.
See MP1 that is how you ask the same question with out being a douche. Lefts it's probably because they are local and have a better understanding of the local bathemetry (shape of the ocean floor) and how tides, wind, Etc affect localized swell. Swell Info is forecasting for multiple locations all over the globe with data from buoys, NOAA, NHC and other sources. they are run through models and it spits out predictions. As stated use these as a guide but check cams, NOAA, NHC, buoy reports and marine nearshore wind forecasts to get the best idea of the waves. Also MP1 do you email your local weather man *****ing when his forecast changes? Is that the real problem or do you just hate advertising on the sidebar and top of the site?
Mr. Swellinfo nailed it here at my local. A few bonus bigger sets than predicted, but other than that... spot on.
Well isn't that kind of sad if you think about it like its swellinfo a major forecasting website.... like I said im not here to start anything because I still use swellinfo as a way to predict waves. I hate to say this but I have to say this (Im not lying) MSW is more accurate than swellinfo recently... now don't get me wrong I love swell info but is it just luck that MSW is getting it right (recently) or what?
