I just bought a 9' 6" Austin Soul Glide and part of the deal with the wife was one of the other two has to go. One is a 6' Firewire Quadfish and the other is a 8' Nolte funboard. Part of me wants to keep the fish so I have something completely different from the longboard, but the other part of me wants to keep the funboard in case something happens to the longboard I'll still have a board with lots of foam. What would you do? By the way, I've taken the fish out once and it was an unsuccessful session. I originally bought it for kiteboarding but I've yet to kite on it.
Keep the fish, ditch the funboard, that way if you want to get into shortboarding you're already set. If the only time you're going to use the funboard is as a backup for the Austin I would say ditch it. I always used to keep a spare board around but I would end up never riding it, it would just collect dust.
Keep the fish. You going to want something smaller for bigger swells. Can't duck dive the Nolte. Better yet, let me "store" the Nolte for you, wifey will never know...
I'm bumping this because of factuality. Rob - Congrats on making the Salt Life team. Are you still riding for Oakley? Can you hook me up with some shades?
Don't give up any. Make a deal with your wife. Tell her she can have something of equal value. Give and take brother.
funboards get a bad rap because beginners ride them, but even if you're an experienced surfer, like the name says, they're fun. easy paddling, a lot easier to turn than a longboard, and great for just about any condition. i've got one for those days where i just want to cruise, or if its been flat a while and i'm sick of the log. see if you can keep all three, tell your wife that the smallest complete quiver a surfer can own consists of 3 boards
I agree here. Keep all three. You have now completed a workable quiver. And if anyone else needs a board including wife you have that other board to use and they'll be stoked their using your board! .
Thanks bro, Salt Life is sending me so many stickers I can put them on my truck, boards, tackle box, grandma, cat, everything. I'll hook you up with the sickest pair of Oakleys, the "CB tourist" is perfect to wear while you surf. Guaranteed to stay on in the water.
Hide it in the garage or tell her you can't sell it for what it's worth. I've done that a few times; works every time
Mrs. Earl of Funk is always yapping about the lack of money and maybe I should sell off some of my quiver. Then, I just give her a good pipe laying and all that talk ends. You can do that, or tell her if you have to get rid of something then so does she!
Keep the Quadfish. I have one and love it. It took a little while to get used to it, but now I can catch waves with it just as easy as my fun shape. And its rideable on some bigger swell. Use the log most of the summer, and ride the fish when we actually get a decent bump.. Or tell your wife, if you have to get rid of your board, its only fair that she get rid of something of hers (pair of shoes, etc). Bet she will reconsider real quick. Its not like the board is costing you $ to keep around.
am i the only one who thinks the wife is the one that should go?? or maybe i just got really lucky & am marrying a woman who understands my habit & how surfing works... that said, if you're gonna get rid of one, get rid of the nolte.
keep the funboard because funboards are so sick. send me the firewire and write it off as a tax donation.
Hilarious! My crystal ball says you're going to be riding the longboard more than anything else. Don't be afraid of it once the surf starts pumping, they can really come alive with heavier surf. I'd get rid of the SB (but stashing it seems like the best option) so that you can still loan out the FB if your wife wants to come or any friends want to try surfing.
