    check this....

    http://obxentertainment.com/2012/07...urfers-announced-for-nags-head-labor-day-cup/

Now am I crazy or is it invite only and they invited 1 dude from NC but invited Sunny Garcia? Granted I have no interaction with him but know several people that have. I have only ever heard two things about that dude
    1. Throws unbelievable buckets
    2. Is a complete a-hole

Don't get me wrong I enjoy a lot of these guys surfing but some OBX & NC locals need to be in on this travesty of a contest. Whoever made this invite list was clearly shooting for name recognition and folks that need cash. Keala Kennelly? For reals?

it's a bud light tour stop so that's why there's a bunch of out of town pro's but still a few OBX dudes and this is only the first wave of contestants. sorry but i'd rather see sunny and freddy P then some dude who's surfed KDH pier for the last 20 years.

Garland CA not OBX... Bourgeois Wrightsville... not OBX. If its not invitational then I don't have a problem with the line up it just seemed that way in the press release.

should definitely have at least 1 or 2 local surfers... not zero.

If you read the fine print, the Nags Head Cup is in Hawaii. I don't know why they try and make it seem like it's in NC. Maybe because Nags Head is in NC? BTW - has anyone ever heard of "New Sun" surfboards from Nags?

Also, I was just kidding about Hawaii. NC needs more summer pros in the 1st wave.

I still have a hot orange 5'10" New Sun needle nose thruster from the 80s' ( bought it new when I lived on the Outer Banks). I keep it for old time's sake and becuase it has a big " Clark Foam" logo under the glass near the tail. I ride a fuller board these days due to my age ( 59) and it goes better in most waves. New Sun made nice boards. I don't know whatever became of the company.

Professional surfing icon Sunny Garcia is among the first wave of contestants announced this week for the Bud Light Lime Surf Series Labor Day Cup at Jennette’s Pier, also including big wave record-setter Keala Kennelly, Wrighstville Beach native Ben Bourgeois, and Outer Banks local Kim Diggs!

I know it's in NC - it seems like half the line up is from the other side of the world (HI). Trying to be crafty. Looking forward to seeing Ben slay some waves against two of my favorite surfers: Sunny & Freddy. I'm digging the local, Kim Diggs.

Somehow, a 7'6" New Sun made it's way to my quiver. I'm glad at least someone out there has one. "Military grade glassing" and a sick skull (like Christenson). I actually contacted the guy who custom ordered the board - my email's subject line: "Ever wonder what happened to your custom New Sun..."

those guys were probably not willing to lose to the likes of Jesse Hines and Brett Barley. Those two dudes get so deep it's not even fair.

I'll still be there to watch. A few of those names, Toth, Robb, Benji, I'm stoked to see these guys shred! I saw Toth out all alone surfing blown out tres palmas. He is absolutely fearless. I hope they get some juice!

I bet Gnarly Barley and Michael Powell (possibly Ben too) will end up being in it schedule permitting.
