I am 20 years old grew up surfing the great lakes, if you don't believe me watch the movie unsalted. I am now at Lackland AFB and miss surfing a lot. I am busy all week, very busy. But I really would like to hitch a ride with someone headed out to the coast on a weekend... If there is a swell. I can't forecast when it comes to ocean swell. But if there is a hurricane or something along those lines ever headed our way like hopefully Ernesto next weekend I really want to get out. Hell if your in the San Antonio area I would like to atleast talk about the gulf coast surf so hit me up on my cell. 248 410 2518

ahhh.. one of my greatest fears is that my wife (navy medical) will end up getting stationed there or great lakes. sorry for your luck so far in surfing life. On the plus side there's always the western or northern pacific ocean next duty station... can help you out with those two

I am.. you have to watch the forecast religiously. It can get good but normally for a day or a few hours.

I usually check swell info, lol. I know there are alot of groups in san antonio that go to south padre, check some of the texas surfing sights. I am closer to houston, so can't help out with a ride, but i did find a website devoted to padre surf spots. Very informative. Google is your friend.

hey man, i'm curious - which great lakes did you surf and how frequently was it actually surfable? was it strictly a wintertime thing? crappy windswell always? hope you find some waves down there!

I am in San Antonio, I think swellinfo does pretty good at forecasting its off sometimes but not.by a whole lot. I also tend to use several forecast resources to give me an idea if it is worth going to the coast. Conditions are hardly ever optimal and its rough to catch it good being so far away, which makes me pretty willing to paddle out in crap that other people would pass on.

I surf Lake MI on a consistent basis, every single weekend I got out to LM for head high or above surf for 10 weeks straight. The summer time is rare but if your willing to travel you can get your surf in, but fall and winter there is surf 3-5 days a week. I ride a 6'0'' not a long board and thats coming from me, so its consistent if you know how to forecast and can travel a little. Ive surfed every lake but Ontario. I hope I can get out in the next few weeks to get some surf. If everything goes as planned I will be in panama fl in nov so we will see. I will surf one day lol
