No sir. Most of us would move to an "island" with waves and hope to find a girl there.

honest reply : if you feel you will not be able to find a woman comparable to her that lives here/ is willing to live here, go for it. You don't want to pass up on a once in a lifetime opportunity like that. However, unless you have trouble finding woman to date and she came along a while after searching, Its a no brainer that one day after the initial excitement of her/ marriage etc.. passes you'll realize you would have been just as happy with another woman closer to home + still have the enjoyment of surfing ... my $.02

I say go for it! Living on the beach for surf on the East Coast is not really all it's cracked up to be. First off, the waves aren't all that great and second, it's the second most inconsistent spot after the Gulf Coast (bless their souls). There's a handful of legitmitate swell events a year and I'm willing to bet you'll be able to score either way.

Pat, if you are honestly considering this.... you are not a surfer or a waterman. If you're 22 years old like your screen name suggests, you're not even smart.

I never moved inland for a girl although I did get caught up in a serious relationship when I was your age--thought it was meant to be. Unfortunately I didn't realize that people still have a lot of exponential growing up to do at your age. Amounted to a bunch of wasted time, energy and emotion. I should have found someone to give me an honest opinion about my intentions at the time--someone to tell me what a freaking idiot I was being.

So, I'm going to do you a favor: You're a freaking idiot for considering this if you have at least a modest attachment to the ocean. You are already starting out a PARTNERSHIP that is completely lopsided. Go ahead and set that precedent and see where it gets you. Think into the future when you want to vacation on an island but she wants to go to Branson, or whatever the hell landlocked people do.

    BTW, I'm happily married.

5-6 hours inland.....not for love, not for a girl, not for a job. not when you can find all of it within the proximity of the ocean.

ahhh the ex-surfer... unless you are at the age of collecting social security there is nothing more pathetic in my book than the ex-surfer. Don't tell me how good you used to be or where you used to surf... if you're not doing it now then you don't matter. You got fat, middle aged, drink and smoke too much, too busy with a family, changed jobs, or moved away.... if you had one of the greatest gifts ever given to man and you chose to walk away, then you are not a surfer and never were. Plain and simple. Don't try to justify the surf threads you still wear and say "I CAN surf". Hell I CAN drive a race car but that doesn't make me a race car driver does it? Nope. takes time. dedication. experience. rant over................

If you're less than 38 yrs old, you're about to learn a real hard lesson about women, kid.

Funny thing hanna, I deleted something to the same effect out of my post before I posted it. It was much less subtle, you got the same point across way more PG than I.
