yo man this ****s too funny! reminds me of when i was tryin to teach one of my brothas to surf and he thought there was some sort of fukin ocean monsters under him. Nigga got so freaked he punched me in da face and yelled bring me in *****! Then i looked down an saw something just floatin there bout 7 in long. My brotha was screemin his head off and blood was comin up in da water. Then i realized that my brotha was trunkin it and his shorts got ripped off. brought him in and he started yellin my **** got ripped off! I swam out and I called an ambulance and told them what was up. I threw my bortha a towel and the cops and paramedics showed up. They brought with them four highly trained cockerspainals to retrieve my nigs diick in da water. the cockerspainals got it and after a 12 hour sergry hes ok. He told me to never bring him surfing again and to this day i sometimes get skechted out bout a ****shark attackin me! So watch out brothas they be out there! So yeah man go back out just ask the locals if they seen one of them diccksharks lately.

Creatures of the deep!!! 2 weeks ago i was riding jet skis with some friends on a bar about a half mile off my surfing spot. the waves come in great even on smaller days out there so its fun to jump. one of my boy's saw bunker spinning up on the far side of the bar so we all rode over to check it out. all 3 of us were about 30-50ft from the splashing when....BAMM! a thresher that was easily 150lbs or up, that's a VERY fair estimate, jumped right through the frenzy. he jumped out of the water 2 more times away from us but also INSHORE!!!! his\her tail was undoubtedly a thresher tail with that long top-tail fin. couldn't get an accurate guess on the length of of the thing being that it happened so fast.... maybe 9ft+. all i know is i've caught quite a few of those in my short years and this was a big sukka. let alone a half mile off the beach i surf all the time and headed INSHORE. funny thing was a fisherman and his family or friends, or who ever was on his boat, were VERY aware of what just happened. all of them pointing and screaming "did you see that thing!", "holy $#!**, was that a shark?" amazed but laughing we all decided that was the end of our ride. no one wanted to fall off and swim with that guy even for 30 seconds (do you blame us?!?) LESSON(s) LEARNED: Don't be scared out of the water but all ways have respect that there is something WAYY bigger than you in the ocean. when it doesn't feel right get out. if its good, shred on!
Nice stories. I am a firm believer that if you really get the spooks that you cannot shake, just get out. A few years ago on an dark and cloudy day I had something spook me pretty good. My buddy and I were sitting on our boards waiting, when all of a sudden I get jerked backwards. The rear half of my board wass under water and I was being pulled backwards. My buddy said he looked over when I yelped and I was way up on the nose of my board trying to paddle while the read was under. Whatever it was let go or got untangled and I booked it to shore. I never saw what it was and there were no visible cuts on my leash. It spooked me though.
Bueller...Bueller...really, nobody? oh ok ill be the first to call bs on this one...we all know black people cant swim just like white people cant dance... and who was it that said it was a mermaid/merman? thats my guess that im gonna go with on this also. ive seen a lot of speculation on these creatures from animal planet as of recent.
In this day and age of information, i can see how we could get more spooked than ever... the thoughts never entered my mind until about 3-4 years ago...been surfing for over 20 years now (yes i'm old) and in the early 90's, I just went out and didn't think twice. I've gotten bumped god knows how many times and it didn't phase me... today...I would surely get spooked...probably my old age making me more cautious. I've gotten really spooked once.. and that was in Bodega Bay just north of San Fran..murky waters, seals everywhere... leash plug broke and I barely made it in.. big day in NorCal... then next day... surfer was hit by a white shark..yikes!
Sounds like the concensus is that if you are spooked by a criter, it is wise to get out for a while. Better safe than sorry. It does seem that mid-Atlantic inlets are fishier than other spots and that surfing solo means less eyes on the water and less awareness of the souroundings. (I suppose that is why fish swim in schools.) A solo session can be wonderful but I will improve the odds keep them to a minimum. The beauty of the east coast is that we can spread out and not get jammed up at limited point take-off spots. When the surf is good we get the best of both worlds: company and plenty of good surf.
I've gotten the 'wtf was that' moment at Assateague (x) many moments. And then ya see the people hauling small sharks out of the surf on hooks there. So, who can help thinking about the bigger ones, yewww. Still one of my favorite places on the planet for surfing & just hanging out enjoying nature: Assateague.
